Been to the Welsh Game Fair today. There was a family there with 4 lab pups that they were trying to sell. There were two blacks and two yellows, although the yellows were a dark dark yellow (fox red even). BUT, the two yellows both had white toes. The woman was insisting they were pure, she had pedigree papers there and the pups were kennel club registered!!

I don't think the woman was "dodgy" in any way, they were locals who had bred their pet (yes yes I know) but she wasn't going to part with them at the fair, she wanted people to visit the house etc etc etc.

But anyway, is it possible for labs to have white toes like this?

Vicki
PS I have other reasons for thinking they were crosses too - they were very small and far from the typical chunky lab pup.

Hmmmm what an odd way to attempt to sell pups Confused

Were they from working lines? A lot of working lines are very sleek and not very chunky at all often making them seem like a cross-breed..

Don't know about the white toes...

Yes, while toes do happen. Actually, according to the standard, a white "Star" on the chest is acceptable, but white toes are not. But as I said, they do happen.

Regards, John

Yes I agree it was odd but it happens a lot at the game fairs - and a lot of pups are just handed over there and then (not labs normally, JRTs and alike Evil or Very Mad )

Yes she said they were working lines and the pedigrees backed that up (ie lots of Field Trial Champs) but I've just looked at Di's pics which are 6 weeks now aren't they, and these pups (supposedely 10 weeks) looked smaller than Di's.

Weird.....

Hmmm... Di's are rather chunky though... not from pure field lines, they are dual purpose labs. Both parent being reasonably chunky and a decent size...

They look like little labbies, just from what I would call in my little experience working lines... I have seen a few that have the same build as these...

The location of the game fair I would imagine they are solid working lines Very Happy (unfortunately they could also be the dreaded .............)

From what I can see, they look like labs Very Happy Clover was quite slight and leggy in her early days Wink (some say she still is Rolling Eyes )

Definitely look like working line labs to me - what a shame they have to be found homes in this way though Sad
