does anyone have any ideas as to how to stop the dog eating the cat food?

she just wont leave it alone, infact she'll eat hers then wait till i leave the room and scoff the cats dinner aswell, ive even watched her chasing him away so she can get to it.

TBH I think its asking too much for them to leave it alone - my cat is the boss totally but Ruby would still eat her food. I resorted to feeding the cat off the ground and dedicate a piece or work surface in the kitchen to her so she can eat in peace Razz

I have to feed my cats up on a worksurface too. Although the dogs wouldn't push the cats out of their bowls, if any is left then the dogs would all swoop on it. Cat food is Manna from Heaven for dogs, so it is asking a bit much of them to just leave it, if it is within reach. Wink

Hi have to agree with Vicky, having said that when Baxter was a pup cats fed same time as him and i put a board up to stop him getting it and told him to leave. Progressed to without the board same again leave and he's now 14mths and will sit as if there is a board up and won't touch it. Even if the cats walk off and i leave the room but he will start barking........'mum please move it i want it' Laughing Do the same as Vicky up on work top that's just for them Very Happy Maggie is another story eats everything given the chance typical lab!!! Very Happy

We use only the downstairs of our house - because of this, the only place safe for the cat to eat her food is the bathroom! Yorkie is obsessed with it - we have even caught him trying to rip open pouches of the stuff. Due to OH being in a wheelchair, all downstairs doors are swing doors which are easily pushed open by a big chunky labrador! In the end we had to buy locks for them all and let the cat in and out as and when she pleases.. Yorkie seems to have given up on getting the cats food for the most part, but every now and then he'll still try and open the door - if that fails he waits for the cat to come out, then he licks the leftovers from her chops!! Laughing

our 3 cats get fed on the worktop as there is no way any of my 3 dogs would leave there food alone..lol.

cats have a bowl full of dried food and a bowl with fresh food and when it comes to filling them any dry food drops on floor is very quickly hoovered up by the dogs.lol..

although one of my cats will wait and eat teh dogs food if there is any crumbs left Confused ..lol..

Up on the worktop for us. Very Happy There really was no other way, or it wasn't the cat who got the cat food - Charlie did, and he loved it too. Twisted Evil

Since getting a dog, my cats spend most of their time either upstairs or outside, so they are now fed on the landing outside of the bathroom, and the dogs have never been allowed upstairs, in fact, neither ever attempt to go up there Smile
