Recently Roly has been stretching more than usual - what does this mean?

He does have problems with his legs and the vet has said that she does not think he will live much past 5 Crying or Very sad but we do not dwell on this.

Is the stretching the start of joint problems - I am praying that you are all going to say no - but please be honest.

Samxx

All of mine have a stretch virtually everytime they get up....my cats do it too. I don't think it means anything at all, apart from they feel the need to stretch their muscles. Wink

Hi Sam,

Sorry to hear what the vet said about Rolo.
Do you mean strecthing like with his bum in the air and his front legs streched out so it looks like he's bowing? [sp] Even his back legs streched so he's strechted forward.

My Zac does this [both] and we taught him to do it on command just by saying "bow" every time he naturally did it. So he must do it a lot to have learnt it. We then give him a good rub on his belly when he's in his bow posture.

Zac tends to do it in the morning after he's gotten up, I suppose it's just like us strecthing our arms above our heads.

I hope someone with more knowledge comes along and can tell you what the reason behind it is. Hopefully it will be nothing to worry about it will be a quirk in his character.

Becca

I've read somewhere that stretching bum in the air leaning backwards - like a play bow is a form of greating - your dog saying hello, I love you...etc and yawning ... I'm happy and content in your company. Very Happy
