I agree, I've just been out in the garden for an hour and just lying down Honey's got too hot! It's far better to wait until it's cooled down than to risk them overheating! XX

I go out really early with Stormy when it is hot, but he still struggles, but he does need to go out, so I try and go as early as I can. To cool them down it is a good idea to put water under their armpits as that coole them off more than just wetting the top of their head or back.
I try not to walk my 2 when it is hot and take them early morning or late evening.
But if I have to such as when I am on nights I only do a short walk but take a bottle of water with me and they have a drink out of it every few mins.
I think it is awful when you see people dragging their poor dogs around or running them about when it is really hot.
Thats a good tip Julie about water under their armpits ... never thought of that must give it a go.

what is the general rule on walking dogs on hot days can you or cant you do it.
You can walk your dog any time you like, but you have to think what is best for your dogs.........
I don't enjoy walking around in the heat, so I wouldn't make my dogs walk in it either, Molly was out at 7.30 a.m and she was panting then, ideally, I'd be walking her at 6.00 a.m but circumstances don't allow it.
They then get walked again in the evening, after 7.00 p.m generally.
Molly gets too hot in the garden and often goes back indoors.
I hate to see people walking their dogs at midday it makes me so angry ,
I wait til mid or late faternoon to walk CJ and Cindy, the heat gives me a headache and make me feel icky so I assume it does the same to them, probably more so cos their temperatures are naturally higher then ours
i tend to walk mine at night time after dark, they dont seem to want to bother in the morning, are quite happy just to get their brekkie and chill out when its warm!
willow jumps in and out of the river to cool herself off and if she is feeling playful she will retrieve her water toys from the river,
its better not to risk it during the day, my puppy mastiff had a near miss with heat stroke the other week and that was after 6pm in the garden playing around,
I take Jack out early morning, around 7am.He wont do the toilet in the garden so I have to take him out in the afternoon.I take him down to the canal where there is a lot more shade.I dont have him out too long, just enough for him to do his business and then back home. I will take him out for longer in the evening, around 7.30 ish
