I've just been told that Izzy needs to put on weight to be able to show her
I know she has lost 2 kgs since her last show, in November last year, but she has also grown taller too, it's been really difficult, as with her rest period following her surgery, I didn't want her carrying much weight, but now she is getting an hour a day exercise, I wonder if it has gone too much the other way
I don't want her to be a real podge trudging round the ring
It may be difficult to tell from a picture, anyway, this was her 3 weeks ago:-
Honest opinon... now that she is getting an hour excersise per day, you will need to increase her food quantity to sustain this... I know you probably already know this... the lack of hair on her leg gives an impression on being on the leaner side, but that will change when full hair growth is back and looking more evenly balanced...
she is a little on the lean side for the showring... but so are mine and they still 'cut it'... at last champ show a judge called to me from outside ring and said Ollie needs more weight.. he still got 3rd in grad dog.. would he have been better placed?.. I dont think so.. the two that beat him were crackers... (even if they were a lot heavier )... The year before Tia had her litter she had been out working the season, Breed champ show in March.. no less than 5 people told me... Far too thin..Obviously not .... She was called back to challenge for the RCC
use your own judgement, if you feel that she needs maybe a half kilo just to give her ribs a little more breadth then do so.. but not to the extent that she loses her waistline
back In January, when she had more weight, she did look better, I'll find the picture in a moment.
Getting the food into her won't be hard, she is a dustbin on legs But she's been a little loose the last day or so, so i'm not sure if she's got a tummy bug or if I'm now shovelling too much in too soon and it's coming straight out the other end (I have been increasing it over the last few weeks)
You know I don't like fat dogs not to the extent that she'd be waddling round the ring, but I did realise a bit more was in order
The trouble I have is not wanting to put too much of a strain on her knee until I'm happy that she is really fit enough to take the extra lbs.
She may well be just a slow maturing girl.. dont rush her too quickly...
My Wallace comes from a notably slow maturing line... up to four years for maturity, and although he is large framed, at 15months is still really at the awkward gangly stage.. his head has matured beautifully, but the rest of him is still in nappies no rush...
Although I know how desperate you are to get Izzy out there, after such a crappy false start.. it will come
When I took Clover to her first show back in the summer, I was told to put some more weight on her, so I did.
Then, she started getting 2nds because she was TOO FAT (various judges own words) - so off I trot again and get the weight off her - NOW I am told I should put about 6 lbs back on recently after (IMHO) some unexpected and brilliant placings at a Breed Champ Show - she has done zippo -
Molly looks fab now at the ripe old age of 4 so it could be that Izzy will mature slowly,
I've entered Izzy into a very local open show for june 10th, and a couple more in June, blad patches included but we are going just for practice really, nothing else
I see what you mean about the Epidural patch - can't help on the weight thing as I know zippo about showing but I'll send hair growing vibes your way! Good luck with the practice - am sure you'll get even more confusing opinions from various judges!
