Been a busy day, but I’m sitting back now with a small malt and a mellow glow, so a few answers.
I don’t know Mr Eadie personally, but he owns a shooting estate in Scotland, used from time to time by the Scottish Labrador Club for holding Field Trials. Have a look at:-
http://www.lab.scot.btinternet.co.uk/field.htm
I don’t know of any of Coot’s brothers or sisters competing, but of course, that does not mean there are not. I don’t get to see much in the way of trials or tests these days so am a little out of touch.
I don’t actually have Gillmhor Arrow of Pocklea on my database as a champion, just as a Field Trials winner.
Actually, I think I have your Coot’s full pedigree, from the dogs you have mentioned. The grand parents are solid champions, every one. FT Ch Pocklea Remus pretty well shaped the working Labrador in recent years, being behind so many dogs. Bred and worked by Dave Garbutt he was born in 1986 and in 1991 achieved the ultimate distinction of winning the UK’s top working event, the International Gundog League Retriever Championship. In fact this was his third attempt having come second in 1989 and third in 1990. Consistent for so long!!! Dogs qualifying for this event have all won open field trials. FT Ch Middlegate Cleo of Glebespray I can tell you nothing about. FT Ch Baildonian Baron of Craighorn we have already discussed. Kenue Cedar was born in 1994, bred by Mr W Ferguson, owned and worked by Billy Steel Jnr. Billy Steel has in fact won the IGL Retriever Championship on three occasions! (But not with Cedar)
Great Grand Parents are just as famous. Haretor Mark of Drakeshead was bred in 1983 by Mrs Crowden and owned and handled to his title by John Halstead. Tasco Dan was bred by the late Mrs Rountree and handled to become both an Irish and UK FT CH. Pocklea Tide of Middlegate was again bred by Dave Garbutt but was sold to Mr Benson who took him to first place in the 1988 IGL Retriever Championship so for four consecutive years, from 1988 to 1991 Dave Garbutt had a dog in the places in the championship! What an achievement! The next champion is Theoweir Turramurra Teal, Bred in 1988 by Mr J Curtin and taken to become both an Irish and UK Field Trials Champion. The last champion on this line is FT Ch Croftweit Solo, who I can tell you nothing about.
The Great Great Grand Parents contain seven Field Trials champions inclusing Pocklea Remus again. But I’ll only mention one, because this dog eclipses everything which followed. Field Trials Champion Breeze of Drakeshead was special. Born on the 28th of December 1981, he was a black dog bred by W G Bickley, he was owned by John Halstead and became the first dog since 1929 the win the IGL Retriever Championship on three occasions and the first to ever win it on three consecutive occasions, 1985, 86 and 87. I doubt it will ever be done again!
Just out of interest I see further back is His Grace The Duke of Wellington’s FT Ch Stratfieldsaye Dipper and FT Ch Stratfieldsaye Beinnmhor Lomond and also several of Her Majesty The Queen’s dogs including FT Ch Sandringham Magpie, Sandringham Skid and Sandringham Pippet.
So this is a short potted history of your dog!
Regards, John
