I have been looking into this recently and am really interested in the variation of coat colour in yellow labs mainly, but also choc labs.

Have been "googling" but most of the information I've come across is from the States. Thought I'd share with you these lovely pics of the varying coat colours.

These pics below are all yellow labs but showing the various shades of "Yellow".

Pale Yellow

Light cream Yellow

Medium Yellow

Dark Yellow

Fox Red

Here you can see the varying colours

Here's a pic of a light choc lab

Dark chocolate lab

I'd be really interested to see pics of your yellow or choc lab and see which colour variation they fall into.

Bailey started off really light choc colour, but is becoming darker by the day, can even see the diff colours in perfect lines along him. Think hes going to be quite dark when mature.

This is Leo, who I would say is medium yellow (?). He has two patches on his back though, just behind his front legs, which are very very pale.

I do believe the two patches on his back are called angel wings.
Infact my yellow lab Honey has the same markings.

Ooooh really? Are these acceptable/normal then? Can't say I've ever seen them on another dog before, but probably never really looked!

I was wondering the same thing myself as the other week I saw a really really light choc lab - which I think must be fox red looking at the pic. Is that a common colour? How does it come about?
