i would say most pet owners play tug of war..

but i cant remeber which post it was but i read ppl that work there dogs ie: to go retreive birds n dummys n such dont..
because they want there dog to bring there catch to them each and every time and dont want to have to fight the dog for it.

i play tug of war with both my labs

charlie is not much of a tug of war dog..lol..

I play tug of war with Amber and she always wins. She doesn't growl and we have lots of fun rolling around on the floor. Sometimes she stops the game other times its me, depends on whos tired and had enough. Wink
I don't think she sees it as a dominance thing, I don't think she wants to work her way up the ranks, why would she when she gets all the lovely food, a full time play mate (thats me Wink) and lots of other fun stuff without any of the responsibility! hehe Laughing
Blimey some dogs have it made! Very Happy

I never play Tug Of War, but only because I dont want my dogs to decide to play tug with the Pheasants. Anyone who has watched an older dog playing tug with a puppy, giving ground so the puppy gets it's share knows how lovely it is!

Regards, John

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum & to being a dog owner, most of the people I have spoke to on this subject are on the other side of the coin, but are also working dog owners. they seem to regard that anything you pull from a dog they will do there best to hold on to, even fingers, cloths, shoes & that the dog can have as much fun with the chase & retreave & that the dog is encouraged to let go rather than pull, It is not an aggression thing but the dog should learn to let go if you want it to, anybody that does do this can you tell me how you win or don't win, who decides & how it is decided?

I dont play tug for the reason she couldnt get the difference of retrieve and play.
We stopped all tug games (also she got excited and kids didnt understand why, how ) now she retrieves no probs and kids can play ball etc
