decent cover does give you the option of a referral to a major centre/veterinary school where the costs can be considerably more than your own vet...........

insurance does give you peace of mind that if you get an unexpected vet's bill - that you can cover the cost

Sorry to digress a bit here, but how does insuring a rescue dog work? Is it the same, because you don't know their date of birth, medical history, etc., and are they insured for a condition for life? Confused

Thanks Wink

We've just got an 8 week old pup and spent the last few days researching various policies. In the end we decided to go for a policy that gave maximum payout every year rather than one that was limited to say £6000 per condition for life as I have heard of a few pets needing ongoing medication and could run out of benefit cover.

That limited the choice to the following quotes (all per policy period):
Monthly premium.

Pet Plan (basic £31 for 4k or supreme £41 for unlimited, £90 excess)
M&S (£32 for 7k, £50 excess)
AXA (£24 for 7k, £50 excess)

Decided to go for AXA as the policy is virtually the same as M&S as they are the underwriters for the M&S. Also checked AXA was ok with my vets.

Hope this helps

If anyone needs any help with an AXA Insurance policy, please pm me. I work for AXA Insurance and if I can't help you I'll ask advice from someone who can.

Also:

Halifax (£6k)
NFU (£4k, but that's per condition per year, so not as bad as it sounds)
Animal Friends (£4k, as with NFU (i.e. p.c.p.a.), but underwritten by E&L)
Pinnacle (£6k, expensive for older dogs though)
