I was at ringcraft last night with Sara and one of the trainers/judges said to me, think about what you going to wear when your showing, you want something smart but comfortable. I live in jeans and trainers.
Just wondering what do you show peeps wear?
This was our third time at this class, Sara doing ok, finding it hard to get her to stand still in one place she wants to say hallo to the judge . it was alot quieter last night than the other 2 times, i got there abit earlier so sat at a table (went on my own last night) and ended up sitting on my own all night. spoke to people while i was queing to go up, but i felt such a **** sitting there on my own. There's no other labs their either
Hi Sharon - it is true to say you should wear something smart but casual but the main thing is for you to feel comfortable. If you feel comfortable in jeans then wear jeans you can always add a smartish jacket. If you eventually go to a championship show then trousers are probably better but I wouldnt worry about that yet.
The important thing is for you and Sara to enjoy showing, once you have been to a couple then you re-assess what you are wearing but I shouldnt worry too much there are many people at open shows who pretty much wear what they like - as you would have seen on Mon.
Try to wear something which goes with your dog. With yellow Labs black trouser suit goes well because it does not mask your dog. Can you imagine how for example, wearing black and showing a black dog, how the outline of the dog would not show up? So think about colour as well as style.
Hi Sharon,
Good for you for sticking with the ringcraft, even if they don't appear to be the most welcoming bunch! You're braver than me - I went to ringcraft just the once and the people there were so scarey that I practically needed therapy to get me over the ordeal!!!
From my very limited experience of watching dogshows, it seems to me like practically anything goes, but the handlers who look smartish in the ring do tend to stand out more. Now I'm not saying that diamonte and leopard skin hotpants would be the order of the day , but I always think that, if you throw a black or navy jacket over a pair of smartish jeans, then you can't go wrong. (Bear in mind that this advice is coming from the scruffiest LF member so you may wish to ignore it!!!)
If ever you are showing up Gloucester way, do let me know and I'll put my ra-ra skirt on and grab my pompoms and come and cheer you on!

he he - It does - but make sure you take a very effective sticky brush for removing the hair
I tried the suit angle, but I really didn't feel that comfortable, particularly if I had dragged myself out of bed at 3am now I tend to wear black trousers, top and waistcoat with a tidy pair of trainers

Does this mean I'm going to have to change clothes between classes when Solo starts in the ring - or any suggestions for something that covers Black and yellow
or any suggestions for something that covers Black and yellow
How about a nice Green Sue...I mean everything goes with green, just look at the plant world.

Oh Sharon that sounds like the sort of thing I'd do .
I have to force myself to go and speak to people and then I end up coming across as a completely mad woman because I get verbal diarrhea . Mind you I'd rather people think I'm a little crazy (well they wouldn't be far wrong ) than them thinking I'm a stuck-up cow in the corner. Next week bite that bullet and go and strike up a conversation. You might be surprised, others there maybe as shy as you and would love it if someone came to talk to them.
Cant argue with any of the others lol.. only DONT wear what I wore to a championship show lol
Drove overnight for 7 hours.. wearing the most comfortable driving clothes.. arrived at destination.. had a snooze in the car... and woke up 10 minutes before due in the ring... grabbed dog.. hit secretaries desk for catalogue to find bench and number.. grabbed number and flew into the ring... IN FULL COMBAT GEAR (minus backpack you understand )
I ofter wear 'smart' jeans at open shows.. but lately have found a lovely comfortable pair of combats from next..
Champ shows.. I wear a suit (when I have time to change )
As for your ringcraft.. why dont you go over and sit beside someone, and just start talking... many people are not 'stuck up' just quite shy..
I take a ringcraft class (as well as going to others) and we make a point of stopping for a half hour for coffee and biscuits... and going around talking to each member.. we also try and introduce newcomers to others.. very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.. (I hope )
Maybe we should all have a 'virtual' ringcraft couple of times a month, we can all put our show leads on our dogs - some people will have the pick of quite a few ! , and Kay or someone can go on Chat and have a good feel of the entrants - I know, I know, a bit silly but bet we'd all have a good larffff!!!!
When we got placed Sharon I was wearing very smart tweedy flippy skirt, but I felt very comfy and airy (if you know what I mean) - the old nerves can make me a bit sweaty sometimes (too much information ), and smart cotton jacket - brahn is nice with yellows too.
What about a nice eye-catching crimson red Sue - both will show up against that
Kay - you could've whispered to the judge that you'd just been on manoeuvres with the SAS
Think i'll stick with me jeans and get a jacket, haven't possessed one of those for years since having kids, dogs and working with small children
Becs i don't think i'll get over to your neck of the woods for quite a while, our first show is in Kent next month and we gotta go on the M25 for a bit this will be quite a thing for me as you know
Jules, that's me i rabble away non stop when i'm nervous, my hubby came with me the first 2 times, but he doesn't like the atmosphere there, so wont come no more When i was standing in the queue to go up i was ok chatting to people either side of me, it was just they were 3 groups of people, i smiled at a lady on the next table and she just looked away. Shame there wasn't any labs there, that would have made it easier. But i'm gonna stick with it (i'm surprising myself normally i'd back of ) and hopefully the more i go the easier it will be.
Kay wished you lived near me, your ringcraft sounds very friendly, that would have been nice if they had done that there. I'm gonna stick at it because i want to give it a go (can't believe this is me talking )
