I'm not really into this 'herbal' stuff personally but....
I'm thinking of putting my lads on fish oil and possibly glucosamine. Please see here for example.
Perro has dandruff now and again and I've read in these forums about fish oil and stuff, and I've also heard mention about glucosamine for dogs joints etc.
As I said I'm only considering this at the moment, I'm a bit wary of giving supplements, but I would appreciate opinions from you folk.
Is there a reasson for you putting your boy onto a supplement ????
Vitapet oil is a omega 3 fish based oil and it helps joints to i give my Lab Clyde double strengh 1 as he has Elbow Dysplacia and i feel it helps him althogh im sure someone else will be along shortly to give you more advice than me

The only supplement i give is Glucosamine and Chroditin (SP?) for Jess's arthritis, and have to say it DOES make a difference, esp after a long walk which can sometimes really cause her some discomfort

There is no real reason, that's why I'm only thinking about it.
Perro has dandruff but I think that is linked to molting. He doesn't like pilchards and stuff so I thought maybe a capsule of fish oil a week may help.
He is recovering from TPLO and I am curious as to whether folk think such as glucosamine would be helpful.
Harry doesn't need anything at the moment apart from maybe a chill-out pill.
I give Rosie a fish oil and a green-lipped mussel capsule once a day in her food - the fish oil was something her foster owners recommended - and yes she has a lovely shiny coat.
Green lipped mussel is another joint supplement (alternative to glucosamine) and we thought with her TPLO'd knee having the potential to be arthritic when she's older we'd start her on something early in the hope that it helps later.
All boots/holland and barret human supplements btw.
Have started taking fish oil myself since we got Rosie, so that's another added benefit - taking better care of myself!
We give Sadie a green lipped mussel tablet with her brekkie and a glucosamine based tablet with her dinner every day, she has Elbow Dysplacia and had her operation at 7 months... only a few times have we ever had to give her metacam... so I would like to think they work! x
Jack has hock arthritis in his left back leg. I give him one tablet of Glycoflex II, prescribed by vet, and Flexicose liquid in his food. Have only just started this week so, as yet to see benefits. Look at their websites for further info.

Managed to get flexicose for £13 with p&p on ebay from a trader in the USA. Ordered it on the 28/4 and it came today 4/5. Turned out to be cheaper than I could get it here. How strange is that!

Sometimes the food they are fed doesn't help................what do you feed yours on?

Alphagirl (& BushYakker too ) if your insured, why not get something from the Vet?
Izzy is having "Synoquin" which is a glucosamine & chondroitin supplement, it's not cheap.......but then the insurance covers ours
I give mine Seaweed powder. Its good for their digestion, fertility ( ) and general health. It has also stopped Ugo eating poo. Its also good for budgie's beaks apparently! Ugo also has charcol powder for his embaressing wind problem!!!
Sardines twice a week..they love them!
