I use Burns,we got some science diet from the vet as he was a bit chubby and he has allergies but he didnt like it.He has been on burns for 4 weeks and lost 4lbs,i think it is a very nutritious food and he doesnt feel hungry,it helps his delicate tummy too
Why not keep him on the Autarky but just reduce the amount he has. If he is still hungry you could always pad out his food with some veg....carrots, green beans, etc.
I'll second Jules - feed smaller amounts, and if you must treat, use veg/fruit(not all fruit however, strawberries, apples, bananas) Rosie loves carrots, broccoli stalks, nearly anything crunchy in fact - we call her the canine composter!
N.B. if you do find out he's got cruciate damage the first thing the vet will ask you to do is get his weight down (if needed) so you're doing the right thing.
I also add veg to Leos food. Not all the time. Just sometimes when i want him to feel a bit fuller without putting on any weight. Such as after a big hike, of course i'll give him a larger meal, but i'll also add in a good few heaps of veg too, to keep him feeling full but not pile on the pounds
I also buy frozen then either steam it or boil it, then cool it down for a few mins.
