Coogie used to have any allgery to Gluten, my local pet suppliers did a bag of Gluten free food. It weighed 20kgs and cost £15. Soon as Coogie was on it her scratching and itching stopped and her skin was fine.

Next time I am in there will get the name, it was a chicken and rice kibble.

I won't have Majic on steroids anymore as they make her so ill so I have to find ways of helping her without that intervention.

Pro biotics
Thorn It
Food she can tolerate. Very Happy

Don't worry about hijacking the thread. The whole point of threads on LF is for people who have had similar experiences to ourselves to post their experiences and views. If that means that the thread goes slightly off topic or onto another dog's problems then, so what, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. I'm looking to get as much information as I can to help my boy out and I find LF to be a fantastic source of info and advice. If the info I get from people on this thread can help Jack out then brilliant and if I can help other owners in a similar predicament the that's brilliant too.

Jack with his 'big sister' Sam in the background.

Hi,

My Chocolate lab was diagnosed with allergies to virtually every tree and grass in the UK a couple of years ago. The problem first started when she had her first season and settled down afterwards. She has just had her next season and is chewing her feet, her ears are red inside and she is stratching her under carriage. I have taken her to the vet this week, and she is referring her to a Dermatologist in 10 days. At the moment her feet and ears are infected and smell 'yeasty', so she is on antibiotics to clear the infection. I really do not want her on steroids, so I will see what other options are available. I am wondering if it could be triggered by hormones.

It seems alot of Chocolate Labs suffer with allergies, not sure why? I will post any new info once we see the specialist in case it helps anyone on the forum.

Lots of extra cuddles being sent out to all the poor Lab allergy sufferers! xxxxx

Trace x

Just a quick update. Jack and his big sister Sam have been on a raw diet for a week now. Jack is totally thriving and is eating everything I put down. well he is a lab, isn't he?! We were at Jack's regular vet, he goes to about 4 at the moment, and he gave us Atopica to start on Monday. Then on Thursday we went to a homeopathic vet. She was really nice and very good with Jack. She took an extensive history and we left with 3 lots of tablets and an appointment for a months time. Wendy, the vet, advised not starting on the Atopica as this drug is a suppressant and would stop the homeopathic tablets from working. She was really pleased that I had started them on a raw diet. Jack is still on steroids and Wendy advised from next week going down from 2 every other day to one until they are finished.
Jack seems, to me anyway, to be a different dog. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what has changed but there is a change.
Will keep everyone updated as to how we get on in the future. Things are progressing in a positive way, thankfully!

My rather baldy boy!!

My dogs are fed on Nutro now, which seems better for Scamp and his allergies (not a 100% sure what they are but wheat is a major factor). He is on the adult Light which is mainly rice and Lamb and Star is on the puppy large breed which is chicken and rice but am thinking of trying her on the lamb and rice puppy next time.
Scamp was on the burns high oats before as he is an overweight hound but tried him on the nutro to aid his loss and we are limited to his allergies. Seems to be helping and his skin is even clearer than it was on the burns.
