G'day all,
After the last GT up this way would love to have another was so great to see you all. Thought I'd like to take Ozzie to the beach since he's never been to one before - I know he won't swim, but would be nice to see him play at the water's edge.
I don't actually know where there is a dog-friendly beach but I assume there must be many, I'm thinking Formby area, or Southport even? Anyone know a good spot?
Either that, or if we can't think of a great beach spot, then how about Croxteth Country Park? Google Maps indicates it's kinda central. I have never been there before but it seems quite central and I can't find anything which says no dogs? Failing that I will get out my book of walks in Lancashire and see if I can find a nice walk
Please let me know if anyone's interested in coming along!
Cheers
Ness

oooohhhh I've been thinking of organising a GT 'round my neck of the woods'. Formby is fab! There is a nice walk through the woods leading over on to the beach - with lots of swimming for waterbaby labs! Depending on who's coming and how much walking they want to do can head straight on to beach or an hour or so through woods first!
Alternatively my local beach is ok - Crosby but swimming only good if the tide is quite far in. Formby is much better.
I'm a definite for this - no petrol worries for this one! Hope others can make it too.
we would have loved to meet up but out for a meal on that date.
on ainsdale beach there is abit sectioned of which dogs can go on.its about half a miles from beach entrance.(left handside)
best person to ask is rachmac she lives near ainsdale beach i think?
I always park outside St Lukes Church, I go most weekends and have never had a problem parking - they are a bit cheeky charging something like £3 for the car park. Post code is L37 2DF, on the church's website they call the road St Lukes Church Road but can check this tomorrow. I find it is best to start this end of the woods as if you start at the squirrel reserve there is a small on lead part (and usually lots of small children). From 'St Luke's Church Rd' there is an entrance into the woods with a 10-15 minute walk over to the beach. There is a wooden walk way over the dunes (crossing them at some points can be quite an adventure in itself!)
The woods and beach at formby are completely dog friendly which is great!
Ahhhhh okay, you see I thought because of the red squirrel sanctuary that would mean NO DOGS but as long as the area is fine we'll just keep the dogs on lead in the squirrel area. I absolutely love the squirrel sanctuary and took sooooooo many shots last autumn of the sq's, they're so beautiful!
Okay then, Formby it is!!! Will change the header now
Fudgesmum, so sorry you can't make this one There's a bunch of Bank Holidays coming up so I'll be sure and arrange something on a Monday hopefully you can make it then?? You're only just down the road I'm sure we can work something out - maybe a midweek evening walk once the nights get longer with daylight savings??
Thanks everyone for all the extra info, it looks like Formby is the winner!
