Hi Carol,
ok....heres an idea of what you can do.......it all depends how much you like your job of course (minus the horrible boss)........i read this in a self help type book my OH read on holiday last year.....there was a man that loved his job, everything was fab about it apart from when he got a new boss..........the new boss was a nightmare and made the worker was really really unhappy..........well the worker decided to look for another job throught a job agency, he found a few but nothing that compared to the job he had, so what he decided to do was ring the company that was looking for someone new and tell them about his boss, how amazing he was at his job and how he would be perfect for them. The next day the worker went into work and the boss annonced he was leaving beause he had been head hunted by this company!! And the worker actually got the bosses old job!! Clever hey!
Good luck with whatever you manage to sort out!

You need the advice of an experienced Union rep. You don't need to use a local one. Find a contact number for the reginal office and ask to speak to a regional rep. Explain that you feel there is conflict of confidence with your local rep.
It depends on how far you are prepared to go. Ultimately, how strong you are.
Reading your post there could be grounds for a claim of bullying (it doesn't have to be physical bullying) or constructive dismissal.
There is grounds to take out a formal grievance against both managers.
Not having confidence in the Union rep is a problem but you can go to a higher Union official.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day, you need another job. But don't let this lot walk over you. Give them a bit of hassle, it may save someone else in the future.
Good Luck.
