My mom has her 2nd GR & will never have anything else, I'm a Lab gal myself through and through but we do have Preggles (Presley) over all the time as we did Rocky. Personally I find GRs calmer and as quick to learn as the labs but not as cheeky. Very sensitive when told off and will go an sulk for England Laughing Like someone else said above both my labs will look at me as if to say ....yeah ...and your problem is ???? Go off and forget it.

Anyone with 2 dogs of the same breed will tell you though everyone of them are so different - as for toilet training I think things like getting a pup in the winter as oppose the summer can have a big effect (i.e the back door can remain open in the summer)

edited to say ....yeah sheading is more and grooming more regular but the fur is not as corse altough longer and more of it

my friend had a goldie (he passed away last year) and he was the most laid back, chilled out dog.
i've also looked after lots when i worked in kennels. They tend to be always happy - like labs and eager to please. they also tend to bounce alot on their front paws in excitement...(not sure if this is just a random freak coincidence!).... however we did start to see a worrying tend of goldies coming in that had bad temperments. think its the same as labs really in as much as they have been over breed by irresponsible people and you have to be carefully where you get from.

oh and they moult - lots"! Very Happy

Actually, the golden coat being longer and not so harsh as the Lab coat (Top coat anyway) tends to lay on the surface more rather than work it's way into a carpet, so is easier to clean.

As to looking after the coat. Quite a bit more work. It can tangle and knot up quite badly. Also it's advisable to trim a little bit. It's quite an art to trim a Golden nicely for the ring.

Regards, John

The shedding is an issue, especially if you come up with the bright idea of getting the whole downstairs of your house carpeted blue six months before you bring a golden home, as we did! Laughing

I brush him daily and usually hoover twice a day.. Also much more difficult to get the mud out of his coat, much more so than when it magically disappears from a lab! On the plus side, mine adores swimming so we tend to let him have a quick dip then put his lead on and do our best to avoid anymore muddy puddles as we head back home!

Hi everyone, Well I have my second GR and he is just luvvveerrrrlly!!!!!
When we go in the woods (twice every day) people say 'how do you keep him clean?' He is a very pale GR. Answer is - I don't! He does it all himself and believe me - he gets filthy! The muddier and muckier the puddle, the better as far as he's concerned. And he doesn't just run through it - oh no - he's gotta lie down in it and roll around to get well coated with as much muck as possible! BUT - by the time we get home, he's lost a fair bit of it and then he'll plonk himself down and clean himself up. God knows what it does to his digestion but he seems pretty healthy to me - God love 'im - I do!

Well, that's Presley (Pressles) for you!
