I am thinking about getting sky and was wondering if the people who have it can tell me about the crufts coverage yesterday on the interactive side.
Unfortunately - the BBC were not true to their word yesterday and didn't show Crufts Judging through BBC interactive - my OH was so miffed he actually rang the BBC to complain
There was some interactive highlights after the show last night - but didn't cover much of our lovely labs and really only covered the group judging
Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't be without my Sky / Sky + - but if your only reason for getting it is for the aforementioned coverage - save your pennies
Sky is brill as is Sky+. My OH and I are with Telewest/Virgin or whatever they call themselves nowadays and they are appalling Their customer service is abysmal and the TV service is awful - it's slow, unpredictable and drops for no reason! (usually in the middle of an important programme!) It doesn't even compare to Sky. We chose to change from Sky to Telewest when we moved into our new house in December last year as teh house was all setup with Telewest so we thought it was worth a try, but now wish we hadn't
We're now using the debacle that is currently happening with the Sky channels to drop Telewest/Virgin and move back to Sky + as we're only 3 montsh inot our 12 month contract...
I think that you have to have a BT line to have Sky not just Sky+ as it uses the BT line to update the box?...just for you to bear in mind.
If you're gonna go digital, then don't go with Cable!!
the updates come via the sat, at least i think so as our sky+ box isn't plugged in to the phone line anymore. i think the phone line connection is for when you use the box office pay to view services etc, although a phone line connection is a requirment of your first 12 month contract.
We have had Sky (and Sky+) for many many years - but when we moved we decided not to have Sky, but Freeview with a twin pvr instead as we got sick of the prices Sky were charging. Since moving, I have not missed Sky one bit.
Sorry I can't comment on the Sky Criufts coverage but I can say we have Sky and Sky+ and are absolutely delighted with it, but not the price. We have the full package (£52 ish per month) because OH loves the sports coverage. We also have the films for the kids, very handy on a wet day (plenty lately ).
Sky+ is an absolute Godsend re the pausing of a programme (so no panic to let the dog out in the middle of Ugly Betty etc) and to record one Sky programme whilst watching another. But I do think the cost is exorbitant and Sky do appear to be hiving off some premium coverage onto pay per view such as some Premiership footie matches and boxing, as well as the possible transfer of Moto GP coverage to Setanta Sport for which you pay extra. So if you are considering it, look carefully at what you actually want from it in order to perhaps reduce some of the cost.
