Alfie has been shaking his head the last few days on and off but tonight he's constantly scratching his ears and tries to get his foot right into his ear Confused then shakes his head Sad

I tried to have a look and he really didn't want me to, he even showed his teeth when i went to touch his ear so i guess it must be really sore, i did bribe him with a biscuit and both his ears look quite red so i've put thornit in them but whatelse can i do to help ease it or stop him scratching them??

I wonder if he's got an infection but would both his ears look red?

I took him to the beach today and he swam in the sea so i wonder if the sea water and sand have irrated them Confused

Any advice would be really appreciated, i know they're bothering him Sad

TIA

Hi Lacey

It sounds exactly like when Smudge had an ear infection. We had to take him to the vets initially for a good clean out and now we have to put drops in every week as he seems susceptible to inflamed ears.

Interestingly, we have never had any problems with Jesters ears and they stay so clean! I think it's because he always jumping around everywhere and they flop around a lot to let the air in! Smudge bless him is more placid and is always calm and still!

I would suggest a trip to the vets just to get Alfie checked out as I don't think the shaking of head can be very good for them.

Take care.

All the best,
Nic

It does sound like an ear infection, and I would go to the vet about it, as sometimes they can need antibiotic drops and painkillers to clear up properly. I wouldn't let it go on too long.

Charlie had this problem for a while, though after some good clean-outs and a couple of courses of antibiotic drops from the vet it cleared. I have some stuff which I use to wipe out his ears every few weeks, and he has been OK for some time now.

Helen.

Sounds like Corbie when he had an ear infection. I used thornit everyday and within a couple of days he was so much better and his ears were clear again by day 5.

Corbie's ear flaps were red underneath where he had been scratching so I used a little germoline on them to help sooth the irritation. I didn't put any in the actual ear though just the flap.

poor babe

I had to clean Mia's ears yesterday, she was head shakeing and scratching alot.
After cleaning the scratching stopped, but still shakeing her head (not as much) will keep an eye on things.

I would pop Alfie to the vets, esp if he don't want you touching his ears

Thanks guys Smile

Well last night after using the thornit, within 15 mins he seemed alot more settled and stopped scratching and shaking his head Smile

Today so far they don't seem to be a problem, i've had a look and they definately aren't as red so i'm going to use the thornit everyday for a few days and hopefully he'll be ok *fingers crossed*
