well I am surprised at how I feel really, I was pleased with all the checks that they go through the actual slaughter is quick and as painless for the animal as possible. The men are very skilled in what they do. It has not put me off in the slightest but I have often thought about where my food comes from before anyway. thanks for the reminder lea I had forgotten it was on!!!
Well, as a farmers daughter none of this is new to me, except that the modern way of doing things is totally more humane than the farmyard methods of times gone by.
In the past they cut the animals throat without stunning it, and then let it run around until it was dead. My mil witnessed this with pigs often as a child and I have to say it never put her of meat. Perhaps it was that human mortality was at such a high level then the animals were the priority. (She was born in 1917)
I personally have slaughtered and butched animals for human consumption, I'm not overly proud of this fact, it was just our way of life.
I try my best not to be cruel and work on the theory that if they have lead a good life then they have done better than some. This is of course a matter for debate.
I still eat meat, but I like to know where it comes from.
Controversial perhaps.

I suppose what i meant that i didnt really give a thought about what happens b4 its on my plate, seeing it there has really shocked me I knew that they were killed but so naieve and a pussy i didnt want to go there...
I was pleased about the checks but i doubt they are REAL at all slaughter houses, those i think were cause they were on tv
I know i that many are famers wives on here but i found really gard was the spectators said hiya at the beginning and then watched that calf being murdered
Hubby works with many farmers and they also say its a peice of meat, dont get attached etc etc but thats i think where i cant grasp it,once i see its face and say hiya, its a thing awwww
I always had a dream when little i would marry a farmer i doubt it would of lasted lol well i mean their buisness as i wouldnt allow anything to be killed
Cant wait till 2morros programm Im now off beef/mince etc lets HOPE 2morrows not chicken unless i`ll waste away
I deliberately didn't watch it. I know something about what happens, but I would simply say that in order to enjoy my meals I would not have wanted to get too up close and personal with my meat whilst it was still alive.
Don't forget that in the wild other meat eating animals would eat us if they were hungry and got the chance.
With regard to chickens, just look at that dreadful so-called "farm" of Bernard Matthews where the bird 'flu outbreak happened. Seeing that has made me make a conscious decision to try and be much more picky about where my chicken comes from and how it has been reared. Same goes for eggs from battery hens. What a god-forsaken place that "farm" looked. The abattoir (which was on the same premises) must have been a relief for those poor birds. What an existence. They had no life at all outside of those corrugated iron sheds.
