I took Maggs to the vets this morning to have her stitches removed.
I was a little concerned that her wound looked a bit red at the weekend and also she looked a bit swollen. The Vet says that there is a bit of fluid there and also her wound is a bit sore. He told us that this is just a reaction to the internal stitching, more common in the more errrrr... "energetic" dogs (Vetspeak for loon I reckon!)
Anyway, I need to take her back in a week's time for him to examine her again to check all is well. She is fine in herself and he did say it was nothing to worry about but this means she has to have another week on lead - she is climbing the walls already Poor baby, I feel even more guilty now

It's not only the "energetic" dogs which get this . My Tara is a very laid-back dog and she wasn't spayed until she was 10 yrs old, but she developed a pocket of fluid between the internal and the external stitches. It didn't really cause any problems, it wasn't sore, but as it wasn't going away after a couple of weeks, the vet just aspirated the fluid off. She had this done twice and it never came back after that.
