Thanks Sue - I have looked at them both and you are right about More Than offering the better multi-dog discount. Given that I will be also insuring a pup from August, they may be the better option. The only down side is the excess. Sad

Poppy has never been poorly so far so I have 3 claim-free years and am in a good position to choose, but, like you say, I could claim for something this year and then be stuck with M & S after they tell me they want £9 million for the renewal - maybe I will go with More Than - cuppa first though, I think (brain frazzled!!) Very Happy

lol - something else that has just sprung to mind and worth remembering Embarassed

While no insurer (unless buying that specific cover which I gather is prohibitively expensive Shocked ) will cover any condition or problems arising from pregnancy and whelping - some will not cover dogs to be used for breeding purposes (I know with Sainsbury's you have to state the dog is not used for breeding purposes) whereas More Than simply have an exclusion for it on the policy Very Happy (honestly don't know about M&S)

Enjoy your cupa Wink

Thanks Sue - I checked all that out - I knew she wouldn't be covered for pregancy/whelping and related conditions. I rang both M & S and More Than. Breeding purposes as far as they are concerned is more than 2 litters, so I'm okay... Very Happy

Have cuppa in hand and just about to make my decision.... drum roll Very Happy

I'm with M&S and they have been brilliant.

The first year I paid £121 for the year and claimed the full £7000. This year I have paid £200 and already claimed for Charlie's 6 month post op x-rays which would have been not far off the £200 (M&S pay diretly to the vets so I don't know exactly how much it is) and because of the no excess I haven't paid any extra. He's due for his 1 year x-ray in September so I will definitely have got back more than my £200.

I know Charlie isn't your 'normal' dog but what I also like about M&S is that the £7000 is per year and not per condition

Thanks Wendy and Sue - and Jackie - sorry I missed the post you squeezed in there...

I think I'm going with M & S. I'll take my chances with the renewal quote. I have read through them both and I think that, given Poppy is still so young, I'd rather have the £7000 per year than the £7000 per condition, just in case. I know More Than will carry over the benefit year by year, but once you've used up your £7000 on that condition, you are no longer covered - God, what a pessimist I am turning out to be!!! I also quite like the thought of no excess.

So thank you everyone - what a minefield!!

Rang round 5 or 6 companies looking for insurance for 8 week puppy, all were around £15 / £17 per month ( £180 / £204 / year) and insurance wouldn't start for 14 days after the policy started. so were having to utilise the free Kennel Club Insurance.
From replies here, it looks as if our bundles of joy or despair depending on what they have chewed or done are affected by the postal lottery. As for choosing an insurance unless you find someone giving negative feedback on a company you don't know how good they are until you need them.

I am with direct line and there advanced policy is excellent and i only pay £11 per month but the excess is £65 but if you don't need to claim then it does work out cheaper. I claimed this year but it still worked out cheaper .. sarah and Bailey
