Hi Di i totally agree with everything you have said and people should get hip and eyes scores and do the necessary checks, i just wanted to say that even after all that there are no guarantees and people should also remember there are still risks as there are with everything and no guarantees. The trouble with Entropian, Distichiasis and the like is that they are not actually "EYE" problems, in that the problem is in the surrounding area and the effects on the eye are secondary not primary. So as such they dont come under the eye test banner! It all gets rather complicated I'm afraid.
Regards, John

Well I didn't know LF before getting Majic, she was an impulse buy they were hip scores but they could have been in Russian and not relevant to Maj, for all I knew about them and there was an eye cert but don't know what that said either
Majic has no joint probs, but we all know that she has some nasty ongoing probs which lead us a lot of the time to weekly vet visits and her been under the weather and sleeping a lot to combat her probs.
As you say this forum is for all and all owners of labs, be them tested or not, should be able to come on here to ask advice

Not just relevant to Labs - because of all the great info I have been following I made sure I found a good Flatcoat breeder where the dam and sire had all the relevant checks. Also with John's help I have managed to avoid breeders who inbreed too. If it wasn't for LF, who knows what health problems my new pup would have inherited.

Hi,,,,
Sasha was an impulse buy too,,,i didn't know about this forum untill after we got her,,, i'm not ashamed to say that we didn't have a clue about tests/scores etc untill later, we took it from the person we got her from that the parents are fine as she owns them both, and look in fantastic health,,,
maybe in time it may come back and bite us in the bum but if that was to happen i know that i would be able to look on here for advice and not feel daft for asking or anything like that,,,as we are all human and aren't born with the knowlege of buying dogs tatooed in our brains (hope that doesn't sound horrible to anyone)
Sasha is insured for (hopefully) any future problems that may arise,,and our new arrival due to arrive in 4 days is a cross lab will be insured too...
we are willing to love our dogs as much as humanly possible no matter what the future holds pedigree or not,,,,
and i know that having the dog i have and taking in this next one will ensure 1 less puppy left out in the cold or misstreated by someone less deserving

I'm a sucker for the under dog i'm affraid,,,if we all said no to the dogs without papers and fab scores, where would they end up??? in a ditch or river coz no one would buy them,,,, unfortunately not buying these pups won't stop people being silly and breeding when they shouldn't,,
my new pup i got today,,,is only 5 weeks old,,did not realise this untill i was nearly out the door,,,could not give the pup back and did not have the heart to,,, but as my previous post i know that this little one will have a good life now it is here with some one who cares,,,,
i just hope the others find good homes too,,seen as they are being rushed into new homes,,,it is very sad

My goodness me. 5 weeks is very much too young for a puppy to leave its litter... I know you can only go by the breeder, and this isn't opinion or open to debate, this is terrible and please please do ask anything of us because the puppy is probably at least 10 days if not 3 weeks to young to have left the nest...
Why did this breeder want them gone at 5 weeks? Please do ask anything unclear as this puppy will only just have been weaned, won't be able to be vaccinated for at least 2 - 3 weeks and will need worming fortnightly still....
What have they got you feeding your puppy on?
I am sorry PLEASE don't take my distress and panic as at you, its at your breeder, but know this is very unnormal and you might have a lot of questions because this is just way too early to have this pup leave.

As regards where the pups from non pedigree parents and unhealthscored would end up, don't be fooled. They will not end up in a ditch, that is absolutely not the way to think, pups don't get drowned, they do sell, lets face it most pups ARE from unhealthtested parents and you don't constantly read about litters in sacks found drowned There are always homes for these pups, but they are generally homes who don't have access to good information such as this forum, so the people don't know any better.
The problem with buying from these sort of people is that it encourages them to breed again. And again. Etc. If they struggled to find homes with enough buyers saying 'so are they health tested? No? Sorry then I'll look elsewhere' it might make them healthtest for next time or not breed at all...
