As so many of you know after a visit to the vets last week Jake went for xrays and blood tests today... he had shown no signs of being in pain just a little stiffness after running around, nothing much at all really, it was obvious it was his knee/stifle joint too, the vet said that there was a alot of movement in the knee and put him on synoquin, He said that they would xray his hips too, because of the problems in the breed and not knowing how he had been brought up in those all important early months, so we were more than happy to go for that and get peace of mind.. Jake has also got patches of very thin fur on his sides and around his eyes and a few bare patches with no soreness or itchiness, so they were taking bloods to rule out thyroid and cushings disease.... it will be a while for the results of these.
We were told to collect him at 6:30 and discus the findings with the vet, they showed us the xray of his knee which showed the cur??? something cartlidge (sorry I cant spell these words) damage ,he then showed us the hips!!! one hip is fine the other is not only disjointed but the head of the femur has a crack in it, he was shocked that he showed no pain on examination but said that it had probably been like it most of his life so he would have been used to the varying degrees of pain, it is because of the hip that the knee had gone (same leg) it is so bad that he has recommended a full replacement!! of that hip and femur head that he is referring him to a specialist to get it done asap... they have prescribed him Previcox 227mg, a painkiller and anti inflammatory... it is supposed to be a a really good drug with fewer side effects than the other top 2, I assume he meant Rimadryl and Meta?? again sorry for the spelling.. He also said that he had done a little research on his fur problem and there is another possibility.. apparently there is a condition common in Doberman's, he did have the name ??something?? alopecia and occurs in the winter months only, due to lack of sun on the pigmentation (Aw sorry I cant spell that either or remember)
I am so, glad we took the highest level Pet Plan insurance possible, he can get all the help he needs without the added worry of cost, i only took it because of his breed and unknown health history, I planned lowering it after 12 -18 months, It really was one of my better decisions.... the vet is even claiming direct so nothing at all to pay except the £80 excess of which we paid £66 last week for the synoquin
Wendy looks like I will have 1/2 a bionic pup Jakie and Jakes parents were hip scored, I cant remember without finding the paperwork but the vet had it on record from dear Jakies first visit, he said tonight they were good scores, I seem to think it was 5-6 4-7 I remember both added up to 11 but will check, he added that even if both parents have a good score they can carry the gene!!!!! and the first few months of rapid growth can lead to worsening damage.....
My poor nerves are shot to bits, he has to have another GA and that really is my biggest fear, after losing Jakie that way, it REALLY freaks me out..... Please send some of your fabulous vibes to our poor baby boy, he has had a really bad start in life and we hope this will mark an end to it... the only bonus for Jake at the mo is, he is not allowed anymore walks at all, so no more lead training.. poor baby, I have no idea how we will stop the tigger jumping though he just springs from a standstill without warning....

poor you and poor Jake you really have been through it haven't you. I know you must be feeling really shaken and panicing at the moment but Jake really did find you for a reason and he really couldn't be in better hands
sending ~~~~~~~~~~~calming vibes~~~~~~~~~~~~ for you
and ~~~~~~~~~~~~healing vibes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~for Jake
I'm so sorry it wasn't better news for you. BUT it really isn't the end of the world.
I wish you could see Charlie now - he races round like an absolute loon. I'll try to get some good video of him for you to see.
I won't pretend it will be an easy few weeks. There is the op to go through and then the initial recovery and then the 'fun' of trying to keep him quiet when the pain has gone and he thinks he's 'super dog' lol
But it will be worth it and in a few months he will be enjoying his new active painfree life just like Charlie
You know where I am if you need me. Please feel free to pm me or if you want my phone number for a chat or a moan or a cry then that's fine
Karen, so sorry to hear about Jake, hopefully he can see the specialist son and have the treatment he needs, then really start living his life with you all
Oh Karen, so sorry to hear about poor Jake, but at least now you know what is wrong with him and you can get it fixed so he can live a long and happy life with you. lots of <<<<<healing vibes>>>>> for Jake. XX
