Hi,

yes I'm leavin P in the car until it's her turn, I'd hate to be responsible for passing it on.

I know that sometimes people don't know how harmful it can be especially if you haven't experienced it before - but in this case the pup is owned by the manager of a dog rescue centre......

Confused Confused Confused

I think your friend was being very inconsiderate Confused Maybe it might be worth you letting your friend know what the said ie your friend might not know its contagious Wink Not meaning to offend just thinking your friend might be naive to what KC is all about. Hope Polly recovers soon.

Just back from the seeing the vet, who was amazed that somebody who runs a rescue kennel didn't quarantine the pup when it came in and ignored and/or didn't recognise kennel cough Rolling Eyes .

Polly has anti-biotics and pain-killers for her throat. Luckily her lungs aren't too bad. She's to have softened food and she has to stay indoors for a week and away from other dogs for 3 weeks.

Off to work now. (paid the vet bill - that's my cut and colour out the window this month Very Happy )

thanks for all you advice and kind wishes xxx

I would have thought with being the manager of a rescue centre, he would have had his dog vaccinated.

Mysterio, here's a link for you.

Does anyone know if it's a neccessary precaution if your dog never goes to kennels. I did not realise just how contagious it is.

GRRRRRRRR Pollyanna. I would be absolutely livid too. Vent away!

I've never had my own dogs vaccinated against KC, as the vaccine only covers a small percentage of the KC viruses, so I saw little point. I don't kennel my dogs either, so I have never found it neccessary to have them done.

hi,

the vet said today that its only really a risk if your dog goes to kennels, or near other dogs who have been to kennels, (as Polly did). She said that all kennels have KC at some point because it is so contagious.

Our other dog, Lady, (bless her), had KC after a visit to the grooming parlour where she had spent the day with a newly adopted dog, straight from kennels.

As the vaccine only lasts 6-8 months its pointless trying to keep the dog immune, and also the vaccnine doesn't protect against all the different strains.

just bad luck really !

but as we're grounded, does anyone know how to keep a dog amused indoors? tiddly winks perhaps?

Very Happy
