I think it was the little sucky noise the squeezer made that got Meg jumping and running. Maybe if I'd just poured them on off a spoon Confused
However we now have a dog that's absolutely terrified of the vet's, starts shivering from driving into the car park onwards!!!

Hope Chiltern's a bit happier all round, poor baby, and doesn't start up again. But well done you for persevering Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Try warming the drops first. The coldness going into the ear is quite a shock. A teaspoon warmed in water would do the trick.

I have always found it difficult when the ears are very sore, understandably the dog is not too happy about having the drops. As the ears get better, it gets easier.

Now I'm older and wiser??? I include checking ears and between toes as part of grooming so they get used to being handled that way.

Thanks for all your comments, I wanted to get across to people not to mess around when it comes to ears.

Basil I made a mess of the whole ear thing and like you had to start again with treating for just touching around his head let along lifting the ear flap and had to practice every day with cleaner before starting on drops as the danger was he would become immune to treatment.

Unfortunately a tea spoon would not be suitable way to administer the drops as you need to get the bottle as far into the ear canal as possible.
I also found out how important the massage and milking of the ear is to get the drops into the inner ear and the gunge out. Just putting the drops in is not enough. Chiltern loves the massage.

Start early cleaning those ears out, infection can only treated with drops and if you can not get them in you're on a road to nowhere.

Karen
