a big thanks to all those who advised I get a Canny collar to cope with Daisy - who surely thinks she's actually a husky dog and was born to pull. I was a little sceptical after having a gentle leader and finding it no good - but one week on - the Canny is GREAT!!!
Although I feel a bit of a failure in that I couldn't get her to stop pulling manically towards dogs and people on her normal soft collar by the time she was one, I decided that wth being pregnant, it just wasn't worth the risk of getting injured or dragged over.
It's been fab (apart from the first couple of days, when she dragged her nose on the ground and made it bleed - ouch!). She's walking perfectly to heel with it on her nose, so I often just slip it off, and when approaching other dogs or people, even though she still gets madly excited and starts to pull, it's nothing like as bad - I have full control and can actually get her attention to distract her with a treat rather than being focused on the potential play thing ahead.
Hopefully as time goes on and Daisy gets a bit older, I'll be able to ween her off it.
My parents are looking after her week after next when we go on holiday and I feel much happier as I know my mum won't get dragged over on slippery ground by her (hopefully) like she did last time they had her.
It's lovely because we get back from a walk and I'm not cross or angry or upset or sore and Daisy benefits from getting lots of praise for being such a good girl....
If it's any consolation Baxter suddenly understood how to 'heel' between 1 and about 14 months, it was one of those times where you could actually see the penny drop as he understood.
I loved the canny as you could still do heelwork training with it on.
love mine to.got it at the weekend after trying just about everything else.its so nice not to have my arm pulled out.after bruno snapped his halti clean in half from pulling i was in two minds about trying another head coller, but after reading about the canny on here im glad i gave it a try-its the best £13 ive spent
I love the canny too, I know what you mean about feeling like a failure, but dont.
We dont need oour canny collar anymore, Jansen still pulls the odd time, but not half as bad & I feel more confident, at training I have noticed the most difference, he behaves so much better these days, the 9 months of training finally paying off.
Glad the Canny collar has worked for you too, my little dog Rosie pulled like a steam train-even though she only weighs 4.5kg I still got a sore shoulder from her pulling (how pathetic! ) and I tried a Halti, a Lupi, a Gentle Leader and god knows what else, but only the Canny worked. I feel silly not being able to train her to walk properly but she just gets so excited nothing seems to go into her brain!

cannys are great arent they..lol.. and if you get the d-link then you dont even have to remove the head collar when off lead it just acts like a normal collar,,
brandy will still pull but defiantly got so much more control of her...
and of course i dont go home with a spagahtti arm..lmao..
shelly cannys can be purchased from most large chain petstores even your local shop my have one or order one in for you make sure you get right size though
This has got to be the best invention ever!! I was fed up getting my arms pulled out of their sockets every time we went out and then my friend who works for the RSPCA lent me one that they used and I haven't looked back since. Even my daughter can walk my two together with their canny's on!
