I've just ordered Hugos first Wormer from the Vet and ordered some Frontline aswell as he's been scratching. This is the first lot of wormer i've had to pay from myself as he came with some and was done at the vets last time we went. I am astounded at the price, all together it's come to £28.80 which seems like an awful lot. Have i got the most expensive stuff of something ? i have used frontline before which is why i asked for that and think the wormer from the vet is Panacur. I was lookign at the flea treatment and wormer in our local petshop last week and i could have got both for under £15 but i thought i'd get it through the vet to make sure i was doing the right thing.
What do you use ? is there a way of getting it cheaper ?
It cost a fortune doesn't it. But personally, I would never touch anything that you can buy in the shops and always purchase from the vets. They are far better products, having also worked in a vets. I use Frontline combo and Milbemax wormers, also have a shop around on the internet to see if you can find anything cheaper.
I use Frontline combo for fleas and Drontal wormer.
I would not buy anything that you get over the counter at a store as I don't think they are of the same quality as the vet recommended ones.
You can however buy the vet recommended ones online. Just shop around for the best prices.
Do remember though that doseage on many products depends on your dog's weight. So check the instructions carefully and you may have to go for a weigh in first
I buy Milbabex (I think thats what its called) from the vets for worming. It`s about £9 per dog every 3 months.
As for fleas, I put a garlic capsule into their food every night, and that keeps them away. I have been using this alternative flea treatment for well over a year now and we have never had a flea, not one!!!
Always buy from the vet. I understand that the treatments you buy in the supermarkets and pet shops are the "old fashioned" chemicals. They've been tried and trusted over the years and so the pharmaceutical companies have released the formulas to the pet shop brands. However, these chemical formulas have been around for years and years, but the newer products which you buy from your vet have less side-effects for your pet and are far more effective due to up-to-date testing methods and knowledge. My cousin is a fully qualified veterinary nurse and she told me not to buy products from the supermarket or pet shop, but to buy the latest products from the vet for reasons as just explained. Rather like our medicines, products improve greatly over the years - same applies to veterinary products too.
We use Frontline Combo to keep fleas, ticks and lice at bay and Milbemax wormers.
Frontline and Drontal Plus. Personally I don't like Panacur with Labradors, It seems to play them up rather more than Drontal. Have a look on the web, it's far cheaper than at the vets.
