Many show exhibitors do worry quite a bit. I tend to find they wrap their pups up a little more in cotton wool than the rest of us, workers and pet owners. I am not mocking, it really does mean that much that indeed they do rather stay safe than sorry...
BUT... wink..... yes I tend to warm up for the many Sunday shows we attend by running in a working test on a saturday all day or a days hard shooting through the winter
If they have to throw a 'sickie' for the show they have to. Its just the way it goes. They could twist their 'ankle' getting out the car at the showground so to take procautions of any sort against injury because of a show is not my bag, myself. But absolutely the original poster would not be alone in this.
Its true, two weekends ago Jade had a hard day saturday, took her to an open show Sunday with Deeds and when she was moved in her class she wasn't quite sound so I took her out. I suppose I just think 'proper dog war wound' grin and don't worry about it.

Di, I tend to agree with you. "Our" dogs (ie breed) are working dogs, **** happens, as they say. I would far rather she was able to lead a normal healthy life doing doggy stuff (in the confines of my own 4.5 acres) than be confined to barracks/kennels. Yes my dream is to have a successful show dog but....
Life is far too short to live around the 'what if' basis.... and while I do allow my dogs the freedom to run, play, or whatever... I can understand how Colette feels, and no doubt many other 'single dog' owners...
I tend to be rather blase, with 3 or 4 dogs entered, if one cant make it, I can still enjoy my day with the other 3 etc... but like Colette, there are many show goers who have only the one dog, and any injury means the whole day is cancelled, which, can be a real blow.
Try to relax a little Colette, showing should be an enjoyable hobby, dont let stress or worry ruin it for you...
your original questions though.... what do our dogs do after a show... well your Ellie is much luckier than my lot... they dont get to run around on the beach.. the poor beggers get thrown unceremoniously into the back of the car and carted home

Hi
I was just wondering today........after a show what do your dogs do. My ellie for the last couple of days has had nothing but on the lead exercise to save her getting any injury before this weekends shows, but this afternoon when we had finshed she was given an hour on the beach to really chase about, and she found a really muddy puddle that she thoroughly enjoyed herself in. She cleaned herself in the sea and then we went home, proudly with 2 blue cards and rosettes.
I plan to just let Nudge do her usual with Molly, which is either a good long hike or beach and ball + swimming.
I think after the shows she will get a good stretch out run on the beach too.
Congratulations on your wins btw.
