Hi

I was just wondering today........after a show what do your dogs do. My ellie for the last couple of days has had nothing but on the lead exercise to save her getting any injury before this weekends shows, but this afternoon when we had finshed she was given an hour on the beach to really chase about, and she found a really muddy puddle that she thoroughly enjoyed herself in. She cleaned herself in the sea and then we went home, proudly with 2 blue cards and rosettes.

Its a real disapointment if, before a show that you really want to go to, that your dog gets injured just because you let it off lead a day or two before a show. Its happened to me in the past, so now I dont like to take any chances. I have had anything from cut pads (through hooligans leaving broken glass laying) to strained muscles. She still gets taken for her usual swim in the river the day before the show but under supervision.

Not wishing to tempt fate but Pheebs has NEVER done any of what you describe in the whole 10 months she has been off lead walked every single day Collette.

Not at all saying you are wrong to behave cautiously Collette....but in my humble opinion it removes the joy I feel when I see my dog having a superb time running and playing off lead, full of happiness......which to me is the best bit of having a dog...showing is second to that...I dunno, maybe I need to review my plans then Confused

Another thing as a post script - what about those who work their dogs like Di? I thought she worked them the day before a show on the odd occassion....perhaps I am mistaken Confused

BLue gets treated as normal. In the days before the show if she gets mucky she gets sponged down (only the bits that need doing - nose and front paws usually where she's been "moling" with Milly). We never lead walk anyway apart from in the ring.
