After deciding that we did not have adequate cover for Zoe, we took out a policy with M&S as many of you are with them and it has excellent cover. Tesco's have no problem with us cancelling but we shall keep her on the policy for the next 14 days of course.
Sorry, I can't remember who it was but someone in another thread said they were paying £205.
Our quote came out at just over £300. We decided that we should take it out because well, I suppose we are a couple of pessimists and it will give us peace of mind.
I wondered if the price difference was because of her age, maybe a puppy was cheaper? She's only 20 months though. Then I decided to get another quote, using my sister's post code in the midlands. GRRRRRRRRR that came out to £178.
I think we should move back up there. No wonder us Southerners are house rich and broke most of the time.
I found exactly the same!! I had read on the forums the average price that people were paying and thought it was very reasonable, when I got a quote it was over double the amount and they told me it was because of the area in which I live (a sleepy welsh town!!!) Doesn't make sense really!!
Thats interesting, a bit like car insurance then. We pay £162.00 and live in Buckinghamshire. Stupid question but you didnt tick any boxes on the quote other than the first one by mistake?
Sara & Bessie Boo
Every insurance goes on postcodes, they take all this info from the prices of the majority of homes, council tax,and also crime levels and this info comes each year from police records/convictions,council registers.
Even morgage rates ate based on where you live for the same reasons
HTH
All councils have an online report which tells you how many houses are owned/rented/council who im in work/on benefits and also how many buglaries, car thefts happen each year
Ofcourse this is only stats but sadly the insurance companies base their rates around this
Icemaiden, I am really surprised that yours is so high in Wales. I thought that vet costs may have something to do with it but apparently not. I can understand why car insurance is calculated on crime stats, I pay through the nose for that too.
The annoying thing is that we have hardly any crime around here. I know that for a fact because I am a Neighbourhood Watch coordinator and send out the crime reports every week. Very often there is nothing to report. I heard they go on the first half of the postcode.
So it's not just because we live in the south if Bucks is that much less.
Ooh Sara, now you've got me worried, LOL. We did have a bit of a problem because although we opted for monthly payments, (it's no cheaper to pay the annual cost) it kept saying it would debit the whole £300. Hubby rang up and was told that the first payment is not processed until the 14 day cooling off period is up. We are to call back tomorrow to make sure it's set up correctly.
I was beginning to think all computers had a strange virus today. South East Water took £320 out of our bank a/c today. We pay monthly by DD. Feb and March should be nothing because the payments are 10x per year.
Hubby called them only to be told that it's automated and they cannot do anything about it until it's cleared and then they could pay it back. Apparently we were not the only ones it happened to. The bank, Abbey were infuriating with their attitude. Again the automated excuse came up and they said they could not stop it. Hubby even went to our branch to be stonewalled. Bank managers do not have any authority any more. There must be someone who is empowered to push the right buttons. GRRRR. End of rant.
I think if you said you were moving your account to another bank Nicky, you may find that the bank manager can suddenly move heaven and earth to get your money back!!!.
Also be careful that the payment hasn`t taken your acct overdrawn therefore incurring charges for that plus the "automated" letter that goes out and apears to cost £35 to generate and send!!!
Lea, thanks for the info. It is infuriating though because the crime rate where my sister lives is far higher than here. I suppose because we come under Guilford post code and that may affect it.
If we ever move, I shall get some online quotes for the area first, LOL.
Lol Nicky
We did that for our car insurance and even thou the place is larger in benifits etc our CI was £400 cheaper
Ive no idea how they work out their prices but do check the online community area survey as its not only intresting but you can also use it if they dispute it
