Hi
Thought it was about time to introduce myself (and seek some advice) as I've been lurking for quite a while!!
My name is Ellie and I live in West Yorkshire with my husband and our yellow labrador Ambrosia, we call her Amber though! She's 9 and a half months and is so gorgeous, kind and loving!! We love her to bits! We love her so much we've decided to get adopt another labrador - we're picking her up on Sunday and we can't wait. She's a chocolate lab called Emma, and the vets reckon she's about 18 months old. She's completely deaf!!
So, any tips on how to train a deaf dog would be very much appreciated. The lady who came to home check us is going to put us in touch with some people she knows who train deaf dogs but any advice in the mean time would be really helpful!
Thanks, and I'll post some pictures of the dogs when I find out how!
Ellie

Hi & welcome to you
Have never trained a deaf dog but when fudge went to training classes there was a deaf dog in the next class, she did everything everyone else did but with just hand signals and no voice, she did really well as she had no distractions

Thank you both for your replies!
We're really looking forward to getting her. The lady who's fostering her at the moment is teaching her basic signs I think so we'll be able to pick something up straightaway which I'm happy about!
Nutella - thanks for the compliments about Amber's name, her KC name is Lady Vanilla Ice, but she's exactly the same colour as Ambrosia Rice Pudding so that's where her name came from
Both your doggies are gorgeous, I can't wait to join the chocolate gang!!
