Can someone please tell me what taught in ringcraft and if it is worth attending with a pup (and owner) new to showing? Anyone have any links for locating a local ringcraft class?

Thank you Very Happy

Ringcraft classes are for those of us who wish to train our dogs for the show ring, if thats not for you then you need to find a good general obedience class in your area, preferably ADPT registered Wink

Oh yes, I am aware of that Izmo. Our new pup will be for showing and I would like to know what is "taught" in ringcraft. Perhaps I should have made it clearer....got a bit excited when I read it on another thread and just chucked out this post with little thought.......I just presumed that because I posted the thread in "Dog Shows and Competitions" this would be obvious Laughing

Hi Lucy,

Ringcraft should help teach you how to stand and move your dog, and also help your dog become accustomed to being 'gone over' (physically assessed). It is also great for meeting other show enthusiasts and for learning the game in general.

I don't think the Kennel Club has a list on their website, but try googling 'ringcraft' and your area to find a club. Alternatively, if you know of anyone who shows any other breed, personal recommendation is a good way of finding a worthwhile class.

Good luck in your search!

We don't have ringcraft here. With the help and support of Blue's breeder(s) and observing others at shows we haven't done too badly. Laughing The only thing I miss is having someone go over Blue as a judge would as she's a bit skittish when the judge touches her but, as I have seen, not half as badly behaved as some dogs! LOL!

I thought it a bit odd that you didn't know what Ringcraft was Laughing and I thought I was being so helpful Laughing

When you find a class, make sure they themselves know how to show a Labrador, when I went to my 1st one, they were confused as to why I was free-standing her Shocked and this from Gundog people who should have known Rolling Eyes
