Hi all,
I lost my choc just over 2yrs ago, I'm 48 and cry like a baby still, I'd had Tups from a pup and well as most of you would know it was hard. Still to the present, we, the family, wife & 2 kids, girls, 6 & 2, went last night to look at a 5 week old choc puppy, it's a she, having spent 2hrs there, the first 20 mins with the breeder getting to know us, it felt a bit like an interrogation but I think that is agood thing as she can get to know us a little bit first, we were then introduced to the litter of 5, 1 yellow & 4 choc, and mum. What a joy, I'd forgotten how immotional it all can be, we spent 30 mins with the litter and then decided on which one we might want and took it out for a play, well the kids and wife did, after another hour I had to drag them all away, tears all round, as they thought they were taking it away with them, the kids didn't know that we were going to see them last nightm maybe in hindsight I should have said something to them. We will be going back on Sunday for another visit with and then another visit to bring her home the following weekend. Through the forum a lot is mentioned of a "crate" I didn't use one for Tups, maybe I should have as she ate the kitchen, it reads and sounds like a good thing, should I buy or can I make one? Would appreciate any advice, I will now keep all informed on proceedings on this momentous event.
Crates are a god send a lot on here get them for a reasonable price on ebay. I think 42' is a good size sectioning it off while the pup is small to aid potty training. hth
crates are so cheap to buy its prob easier than making one. having said that we just used the crate upstairs and made a pen in the kitchen using an extendable fireguard.really depends on space in your house. pup looks lovely
Aw the pup looks sooo cute!...(and so do your little blondies...hehe)
I have Toby who's just over nine weeks old and we couldn't cope without his crate. We were gonna buy one from eBay but my Mum managed to pick one up from the Range which had a tenner off so was only £40. I also have two little ones aged 8 and 18 months so it is pretty much a godsend to keep puppy out of the kids way and vice versa...He also sleeps in it during the day and is in it all night with no problems at all...
Hi Nick, welcome to LF to you and your family and of course the pup when she arrives
I`d thoroughly recommend a crate for the pup, as you say you lost your last dog a couple of years ago I`m assuming your 2yo was either not about or only just born?, she`ll be sooo excited with the new pup, but like babies pups need rest and I think it`ll be easier to tell your little one that when pup is in her crate sleeping she`s to be left alone for a while, hope I`m making sense here!!
Crates on Ebay are cheap and good quality, if you feel you can make one cheaper then by all means, but I`d not recommend using wood, you experienced Tups chewing and of course pup will chew her way out eventually
Your experience with Tups eating the kitchen is one of the reasons you should DEFINITELY get a crate. You can pick up a 42" one pretty reasonably and this will see you new dog through to adulthood. If you do decide you want to make one remember it has to be 'determined puppy proof' .. so very strong and sturdy and non-chewable
Look forward to seeing more pics of your new little one
I found crate training both my pups has been a God send, it not only helps with toilet training but also stops them distroying your house and possibly hurting themselves in the process. Lots of pet shops sell them or you can get them cheaper from ebay, i know several people on here have bought them off ebay
Your new pup looks gorgeous, look forward to hearing all about her xxx
Hi & welcome to LF, I used a crate for my youngest Katie, mainly to give my old girl Beauty a rest. I had never used one before but can definitley recommend them
