Hi Sarah... I'm not going to add anything re: the choke chain debate, other than to say I HATE them! Wink and you've been given some really sound advice about alternatives and techniques etc.

One thing I would like to ask though...are you taking Maisie to a training class? I would definitely recommend a good class at her age, as this will help you with all the basics, including the pulling...you can look for training schools at the following

Hi there,
I went to pre school the other day. Anyway the teacher was showing us these chains. She said they are not chocker chains but very similar looking. She showed us how they work, and when the chain has been pulled it automatically releases. I am still a bit scared using one on my baby but these people I saw were telling me that they are 100% safe. But I dont know.

They are safe if used correctly...but if you have a dog which pulls consistantly then you risk damaging it's neck.

I tried one for a week on my collie as she pulled constantly, it made not a jot of difference to her pulling, all it did was make her choke herself...I threw it away and trained her to walk by my side instead.

I wouldn't use one again on any dog. Wink

Brodie used to pull like a steam train, we got a halti collar and it worked a treat, he walks really nice now, but once the halti comes off he back to steam train mode Wink

I used a check chain on Jansen as recommended by our school.

But it was no help & he just pulled to the end of it & choked himself.

So we got a canny collar & it was fab, we had it about 4 months & now we dont need it anymore, were just back to a flat collar.

I would really recommed the canny as it doesnt jerk the next sideways.

good look & HTH
