Had to go to the vets tonight to take our cat Monty to have his eye checked up and thought I would mention about worming/fleas as there had been a few posts about it. The vets have said it is entirely up to the owner how many times you worm them as each time you worm you eradicate them but it doesn't stop dogs getting them. They recommended that if you had small children worming every month till 6 months old and then after that 3 monthly till a year old. As my kids are a little older and know to wash hands etc they said that worming at 3 months then 6 months was absolutely fine. The main thing to watch out for is vomiting, diarrohea or loss of weight but if your dog is healthy there really isn't anything to worry about.

Am taking Jd for a full check up this week and to get things like worming tabs and flea stuff. They asked me how much he weighed and fortunately my husband had weighed him last Friday when he turned 5 months old.....he was 22.8kg. The vet chuckled and said that aint a puppy it's a dog!!! The receptionist then discreetly asked me if Jd was fat! I just laughed as he must be the leanest lab I have seen hehe Obviously he just fills those legs well. Shall let you know how I get on Friday. Hope this has been of help.

Hi,

Basil was 23kg at 5 months (that was when we paid for his flight here, I was watching his weight daily as every kilo was gonna cost me a fortune Smile )

He was also, big but not at all fat and had huge paws. His growth has really levelled off now, he's got a bit taller and a lot longer but is only 25kg now at 9 months. I think they just have growth spurts and then plateaus. The adult food made a huge difference.

Everyone always says he's big for 9 months but as he's got 9 months more of growing and it's now at a slow pace I reckon he'll just end up being normal.

BTW thanks for the info on worming, we do Basil every 3mths but as we dont have kids i think we'll move to 6monthly once he's a year old

x

Wow just noticed JD was born the day after Coal.
Coal is 21.5kg at the moment and is also lean and tall - sound very similar. Very Happy

Well the visit to the vets was a good one. He was exactly 23kg and passed all the health checks fine. Vet said he is going to be a big lad and to carry on the way I am feeding etc as he is in perfect proportion. Got some drontal worming tablets and frontline.

We gave him the drontal at 6pm and unfortunately by 10.30pm he was throwing up so hope they were digested as he had had his tea before the tabs Confused Also did his frontline which he didn't particularly enjoy but he is covered now for 2 months. Will worm again in another 3 months - anyone suggest a worming tablet that doesn't make him poorly - both panacur and drontal really don't agree with him though he is fine this morning Smile

I don't use a worming tablet - I use http://www.holisticpetsupplies.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=87&osCsid=a80bc6f56b09f613ed5f07b7ef329df9 with no side effects and works really well. It works out a lot cheaper too especially seeing as I have 3 dogs and a cat!!!

Hey Sonia thanks for that..... definitely worth looking into as I also have a cat. Have spent £90 in the last fortnight on vet bills/checks so at that price methinks I will be purchasing Laughing
