As I've mentioned before, Oyster has been through a bit of a fear stage. After a really good, bold start to her socializing, she suddenly became a complete ninny about anything which made a noise.
Anyway, because of this I have been putting off taking her on the bus. Even going past a bus with it's engine running was causing her to try to back out of her collar....and I really didn't want to try to wrestle 27kgs of terrified puppy onto a bus.
However, I have been noticing a gradual improvement in her noise sensitivity, ever since she had a couple of weeks off training over Christmas. So today, with some trepidation, I bit the bullet.
I walked her down to the bus stop and found a group of OAP's waiting there. Oyster was such a good girl, she just sat waiting in the queue, while all the ladies cooed over how beautiful she was (Oyster was doing her best princess look too ). I explained to them that we were going to try to get on the bus with the minimum of fuss and that if she got really scared I would have to give it a miss, as I didn't want to hold anyone up......All were very understanding.
As the bus was pulling into the layby, I could see Oyster was looking a little concerned, but she didn't move. The bus doors opened (with me praying that the bus driver wouldn't release the airbrakes) and the ladies moved onto the bus. Oyster looked at them and looked at me and with that I stepped on board....Crunch time!!!.....Oyster took one hesitant step backwards.... then popped up the steps like a good'un....YAY YAY YAY!!! PHEW...we were on... I walked to a seat and she sat next to me like she had been doing this all her life.
Talk about make me out to be a liar AGAIN!!!
I'm so pleased with her....her training is coming along in leaps and bounds now....I just hope that is the last I see of "The attack of the Ninnies" .
Getting off was all done in a very civilized manner too.....the only time she jumped was when the bus driver let the airbrakes off, just as he pulled away...but she soon got over that... She's a good girl really and it is so nice that she is trusting me, rather than doubting my sanity, again.
