hi Bailey is happy and playful but he sometimes just sits and cries as if he is missing something its not because he is in pain and i do feel sorry for him as he seems sad. Any ideas ? Thanks Sarah
No ideas at all i'm afraid!!! Puppy sat for a friends 16wk yellow lab last week and he was doing the same thing, very odd as he seemed quite happy, thought it was because he was missing his family but i guess not! Look forward to hearing other replies!!
or he might just be a pup who likes to whine and cry. if there is definately nothing up and he doesn't need the loo or anything then just try and ignore it.

hi no he doesn't need the loo and is otherwise happy he may be teething as he is 16 weeks and has lost a tooth but didn't know if he had lost it while playing tug of war or if it was teething. Thanks Sarah
he's the right age for teething. i noticed around then that coal would whine alot when chewing his rope toys etc. So i gave him ice cubes - you can freeze them with bits of apple or soaked kibble in too to make them extra nice

My Pablo, Golden Retriever is a terrible complainer. He is 14 months now but when he was 3 or 4 months I took him to the vet a couple of times because of the 'moaning'..I thought that he had a poorly tum or something! After examining him and x-rays and finding nothing wrong, we have just decided that he is a moaner. If things are not just exactly as he wants...he moans, if the other dogs ignore him..he moans. It is just his way of communicating and making his presence felt! If there is no bovious cause with your little one, it may be the same thing, simply his personality!
If it's not teething or that he needs the toilet, it's probably the 'I'm boooooored'...'where aaaarrrreeee you?'. 'Come and seee me' cry! Daisy still does it (even if we are sat in the room with her eating our dinner or watching TV!)...I think vocal labs are quite common...they are just SO sociable which is a lovely characteristic but sometimes means they can be quite demanding for attention. I usually find that a stuffed kong or a chew keeps her quiet for a bit and then she forgets all about trying to have a conversation with me!!!
hi, after Nushka was spayed she creid in the night and we went awwwww pooooooorrrrrr Nushka. OH MY LORD wish we had not. she carried this on until the morning wehn we rushed her back to the vets frantic with worry anyway long story short vet did lots of tests kept her in ect ect turns out Madame Nushka just wanted our attention and had caught on evry quickly how to get it. so after 24 hours of ignoring the crying and making a fuss when she was not crying and we were back on track.
Clever little monsters these labs you know. lol
This could be existential anxiety, otherwise known as angst. Why am I here? Are we alone in the universe? Why does the cat always get the better of me?
Fortunately in dogs the condition rarely lasts more than a few moments, and a simple distraction like the need to investigate its own posterior for hours on end generally brings the episode to an end.
In humans the condition can be more problematic and often leads to the consumption of large amounts of cake.
