As he is one of my pets, I had to name him so I'll tell you all about Robbie. How long have you got? LOL.

He can get under some furniture but not our sofa but he does go right up to the edges of everything. He goes around the room in what looks like an irratic pattern but covers every square inch at least twice in different directions. He will do carpet and solid floors. When he detects a heavy dirt area he flashes a blue light and goes round and round, really getting the dirt up. He flashes blue quite often here!

He comes with a "virtual wall" device which stops him going where you don't want him to. This was ideal for keeping him away from the Christmas tree.

I was very sceptical when my friend in the USA bought one but as she has 4 dogs and highly recommended one, we ordered one. Our Dyson was very old and had bitten the dust, excuse the pun. When we looked into having it serviced or replacing it, the Roomba looked a good option.

When I saw the size of him I thought he would never cope with all the dirt and fur. However he compacts the dirt very well. Robbie is so easy to use, he runs around every day.

We bought Robbie on Ebay because they were not available here a couple of years ago. Now I think Argos sell them (For twice the price of course) Then we went to the USA last year and brought Roberta back with us. LOL, I wish we could mate them. One for upstairs and one for down! Well why not when they are half the price! I know it sounds OTT to have two but quite honestly, I would be so upset if Robbie got sick and I could not use him, well really play with him, ha ha.

Robbie can do my lounge/diner and the kitchen with one charge. He takes 6 hours to recharge. Oh, if you get one from eBay, you will need a power converter, again, this came from eBay.

Hubby laughs at me because I talk to Robbie. The first time I saw him cleaning under one of the dining room chairs, I thought he was stuck. He was just going round each of the legs, doing a really proper job.

He beep beeps a little tune when he starts and a different one for when he has finished a room, another if he is stuck somewhere. Ohh, I love him to bits.

Robbie is a basic "Roomba Red" There are other models that have smart gizmos such as being able to take itself back to the docking station to recharge. I can't see the point in that until they make one that will empty itself, LOL

He is clever when doing the landing. He will not tip himself over the stairs because he has a sensor.

If you have any Q's, I'll be pleased to answer them. No, I don't have shares in the Co. but wish I did!

I've just done a quick google for you and they have really come down in price. Have to laugh at the Electrolux price though.

There is another model called a Scooba that scrubs wooden floors. Almost makes me want to change my carpets.

wow that's a great sell you did Smile

can it do hard marble floors too - i'm fed up hoovering every day. Basil is a serious moulter.

I thought these might be just a gimmicky thing but when you actually hear from someone who has one it makes a difference.

Does Robbie hoover around dogs legs too? Laughing

Also they look v small - do you empty it after every use?

thanks

I was very sceptical too but as my friend has 4 dogs, I decided to give it a try.

I believe it does do hard floors but not having any, I can't really say how it performs but cannot see why it wouldn't do a good job. Dog hair on hard floors flies everywhere doesn't it?

Ha ha, if the dogs stood still, Robbie would do round there legs.
Lenny was lying down one day and did not move when I set Robbie off. When he hit his bum, I've never seen him move so fast.

I used to empty him after each room. He will do one large and one small room with one charge. Now I don't bother, he has never stopped because he's full. He runs out of power first. After each use he gets emptied and the fur removed from the brushes and spindles. The sensors need a good clean every couple of months. Canned air is the easiest way.

Unfortunately, he cannot do the stairs. As our Dyson had given up the ghost, we bought a cheap little Vax Bubble as we needed something to use whilst we waited for Robbie to be delivered. (BTW, this Vax is so hard to use as an upright on carpet pile) The Vax is now used for the car, cobwebs and stairs.

When we got Robbie, I ran him in the living room every day for a week. The carpet looked clean but I was still not convinced about him getting the deep down dirt from the carpet so I ran the Vax over it. I got about a handful of fur and who's to know if the dogs had not shed that in the meantime. I was convinced.

LOL, would you believe there are forums for Roomba users, ROFL. I couldn't believe it? How sad is that? Geeks reprogramme them to do other things. I don't feel so daft with my enthusiasm now. Actually, now I have taken the Mickey, it was useful, that's how we found out about the canned air tip.

I have just clicked on the link and watched the Roomba Green demo video and yes, that one adjusts to any floor surface. Take a look. As I said, just go for the basic model.

I could think of worse Valentine's Day presents, LOL.

PS. How can we tell the Spell Check is US? It suggested Tyson for Dyson!

God yes, everyone thinks it must be easy to sweep and hoover up on a hard floor but its a twice daily job. If I dont hoover every day it all gathers in giant clumps that to non-dog owners makes it look like i hoover once a month. The hairs fly and get everywhere, the fridge, OH's just shaven face etc. it's gross.

Thanks Nicky for the link and info, think i might get myself one of these.
Very Happy

Awww look at Bob's little face in the picture Smile Smile He's saying' you don't really mean that mum, I'm an angel Laughing Laughing

Anyway, what else would we have to do if we didn't have clumps of dog hair to hoover up Rolling Eyes

What I can't understand is how Kip's hair gets in the bathroom as she doesn't go in there Confused
