ah yeah - those gates might work!...do they open and close easily or are they fixed in one long line - does that make sense?...It would be ideal to get something like that as I can then let puppy in the kitchen area where there is literally nothing but the floor, cupboards and washing machine - so minimal destroying opportunies...i.e. no pipes, carpet or electrical wires!...
hehe unfortunately I have been a bit too vocal and excited about puppy's arrival to call i sick/appointment without raising eyebrows and getting into trouble silly me!! grrr...
am gonnac all my best mate if I can't sort something out about switching days and see if she'll come over and puppy-sit on Monday for me. She's great and can't wait to meet puppy anyway and she's like a sister to me so I'm sure she won't mind...
The gate bit is just a normal baby gate like any other, and then all of the extensions are solid and don't open, so you just go through the gate at one end.
We used to just prop the gate open with a chair while we were watching him, then let it shut when we couldn't.
It's difficult, we were in a similar position.
Luckily we booked 3 weeks off when we first got Duggy to get her settled into a routine and got her used to the crate, short periods of being alone etc.
We have to leave her 8.30 - 12.30 and then 1.30 until just after 5, but we're up at 6am to knacker her out, give her none stop attention at lunch and then all evening - it's hard work for us and her but after 2 weeks she's fine with it.
You'll be amazed how much a puppy sleeps though especially after 100 games of fetch!
If you put your pup in a routine and stick to it then I'm sure they'll be fine, though I'm very new to this too so don't take my advice.
We've got a webcam now and plan to hook it up so we can keep an eye on her and make sure she's OK - peace of mind
