Hi folks,

new guy here, so will start off by saying hello to everyone.

Just got Murphy last friday and he's a black lab and so far he is an absolute star, i cant believe how well behaved he is for a puppy (8 weeks old) and how good he is with my 4 young kids (7,6,3 & 1 year old).

Just wondering what pet insurance company folks use as the kennel club insurance is a little but pricey for my taste at £25 per month, tesco seems a good price at £9.80 per month and asda didnt have as good a cover as tesco for £9.91 per month.

any others i should consider?

cheers

Malcolm

Have a look at M&S they are quite pricey - £205 for a year BUT thats for a zero excess policy so you claim for every little thing. Even if you are a bit worried about something and take for a consultation only which is usually about £20 ish you can claim that too HURRAH!! I would recommend it highly

Am interested in the replies to this post Malcolm, as we use Tesco's for Megan. However the cover max is £2500 p/a and it seems it's easy to run up astronomical vet's bills. Also not sure about them re-insuring if it's an ongoing problem. So although I have renewed this year I'm open to offers. Meg is now 5 and we've had one cut paw plus a fright when she swallowed something but it passed through on its own (I think bits of an old ball!!) so I think we've been very lucky so far - and I'm touching wood as I type Shocked

Let's hope you get some good advice from the others. We are all daft about our dogs and want to give them the best.

Hi all.

My pet insurance for Ellie is due. We are currently with Saga Essential cover.

Over the past two years the premium has gone up from £130 to £200, while they have increased the excess from £50 to £70 and reduced the Vets bill cover from £2,000 to £1,000.

Needless to say I am not impressed.

I am thinking of changing to Animal Friends which operate a lifetime cover policy.

Can anyone offer any advice on this company or any alternatives. The M&S looks good.

Ellie is just over 3 years old.

I have changed to M&S now I like the zero excess as last year had 2 vet bills for £55 & £62 and couldnt claim any back as excess was £75.00.

I`m with M&S to, havn`t had to claim as yet thank goodness!!.

With a max of only 2500 you`ll be snookered if the dog needs something like a hip replacement, Wendy`s Charlie`s bill was over the £7000 that M&S covered him for!!

Herbie is insured with Direct Line's premium cover, which covers £8000 per medical problem per year. I think the monthly payment is around £16 and we do have to pay an excess of £60 per seperate condition.

However, in reading the posted threads, M & S pet policy is certainly worth looking at and we might change Herbie over.

Whichever policy you decide on, please read through all the small print - you might find something in there that you don't like Shocked !!!

M&S does seem to be a good policy with a good level of cover. Much better than my current one.

Also you can opt for zero excess which only increases the premium by £20 or so.

Ellie has seen the vet in the last 12 months for overgrooming and was given some cream and for excessive scratching. Would these be considered as existing conditions and need to be flagged up if I change companies. Question
