Honestly and in my very humble opinion blah blah blah she talks out of her bottom
1) She didnt discover this new way of talking to dogs, its been around for along time and has been dis-proved for even longer. John Fisher saw the error of his ways just before he died and admitted it to.
2) Its based on bad science. The wolves studied were not wild they were in a fake environment that forced behaviour.
3) In the wild if there is enough food the pups are allowed to eat first. Surely if you devour their food first that teaches your dog that you are a pup and they are as default the adult
Has anyone actually tried that before, all i get is my dogs bouncing up and down going "Foooooooooooood, please" and then walking away from their bowls when they realise its just kibble and not actually the crisps i was jsut eating

I personally don't follow Jan Fennell that closely. I am lucky in that Charlie is usually calm when I come in anyway, often just coming up to give a quick lick and sniff and then returning to his basket. Therefore, the rule about ignoring him on my return hardly seems to apply.
Topsy (cocker spaniel) on the other hand, is often much noisier but I find I just have to wait a couple of minutes for her to calm down before letting her out of her crate and straight outside.
My other main rules are that when it is walkie time I must be the one to set foot out of the house first. If the dogs do surge ahead when the door is opened then they are immediately brought back and we start again. Again, Charlie is pretty good here, and quite laid back, but Topsy is flighty and has the attention span of a gnat. The same applies when we get back - I like to be first to set foot in the house and the dogs are corrected if they forget that.
For what its worth, Jan Fennell only seems to have a limited number of strings to her bow. The only thing I have ever heard her say when confronted with a problem dog is that it must be demoted from its perceived position as the pack leader, as if she is saying that all behavioural problems come back to that. Some do, but others do not. There is absolutely no way that Charlie is in any form of leadership role in this house, but that does not mean that he has never displayed any problem behaviour at all, as readers of some of my other posts may remember.
Anyway, that is simply my humble opinion.
Helen.
