Hmm, I think the method we used with Asha was completely obscure and totally wrong, but it worked
At about 6 mths I knew she would respond to "Sit" and "Lie Down" well ... so when she was pottering about at a distance I would shout assertively "Asha" (to get her attention) "Stop" (to get her to understand a keyword) and them "Lie Down" in quick succession. Dunno why, but she responded - maybe cos I sounded so hard and she's a timid luvvy
Anyway, I've never done anything other than that, and now she will instantly pause on an assertive "Stop" and only occasionally needs a reminder to "Lie Down"....... with a waggy tail always ...
I took it in turns with both of them, shutting the other in the kitchen. Sat them in the wait at one end of the living room and I went to the other (23 foot), and called, then put my hand up and told them to stop, and they both did it, I am so proud of them, can't quite believe it was that easy.
