Phew ... I feel semi normal now ... Purdey does exactly the same, doesn't want to give up her ball unless you really persuade her. And at the end of her walk, she definatley does not want to go back on the lead, just jumps around barking excitedly and wagging her tail ... was starting to make my partner worry we were doing something wrong!!!

But, we went to puppy training last night ... and she did everything perfect, fetched and dropped her ball on command, so good she's been upgrade to Bronze class, so she can do it ... why not everytime!! Hmmmmmm .... children!! Smile

[color=indigo]My dog Naploleon does the exact same thing as well Rolling Eyes . i have to play tug of war with him to get it out of his mouth. But i have realised that when he runs away from me with the toy i chase him and play tag. Once i have tagged him he chases me with the toy. I have tried so many things too make him fetch but it just isn't working. So i just play along with him. Wink

The 2 ball trick doesn't work with Pheebs - she thinks she can carry both and ends up running after the 2nd with the 1st one still in her mouth Laughing

I just ignore her if she won't leave the ball, that drives her nuts and she winds up dropping it if frustration that I won't challenge her Laughing

Pheebs is a "carrier" too, but she also plays fetch.......sorry to kill your carry or fetch theory Embarassed Laughing

Alfie drives me crazy, he's a retriever who won't retrieve Rolling Eyes

I tried everything to get him to bring the tennis ball back but i have to admit that i gave up Embarassed i take about 3 balls with us on every walk and he loves chasing the ball but soon as he gets it, he drops it and looks for the next ball Rolling Eyes he has me well trained Laughing

Billy brings the ball back and even gets Alfie's balls that he's dropped sometimes and brings them back hehehe but then he barks for me to throw it again Rolling Eyes

Alfie only ever will swim if i throw 2 balls so he can bring them both back Confused he's a strange dog Laughing Laughing
