Just saw this crop up...haven't read the entire thread, but wondered if it was worth mentioning...what sort paper are these certificates on?
Reason being, I went along with a friend to see her new pup...a golden doodle, tried telling her to go for a lab ...but anyway, whilst she was talking to the breeder, after looking through the dogs books, I had a quick skeet at the certificates, and they were all on plain white paper, even the supposed kennel club registration certificates of the parents....which I presumed meant they weren't 'real'?

Thank you very much ladies - I agree it looks much better to update it in advance although it makes complete sense that it is the mating date which counts. I shall get her booked in for her eye test!
The BVA eye certificate for all breeds IS on white paper. Hip score is Green and Elbow score is yellow/gold. Both these are on thinnish card...but not paper.
KC registration VERY old style were white and green.... new style have several different colours on them and are on glossy paper.
Its common for a stud dog owner to give photocopies to the bitch owner so HIS may be on white paper (copies) and be legit. Dam's should really be the genuine article. There is no reason for the bitch owner to have lost the originals on her own dog.
But then, with my suit of armour on anyway, she has bought a crossbred dog. health certificates will mean nothing and might as well not be there as without both parents being of the same breed and tested, they are not going to do the puppy any favours anyhow even if they are good. Ditto the parents KC registrations, its all null and void and beside the point on a cross puppy offspring from them anyway.

The KC registration papers were portrait and appeared to be typed out, no logos I don't think, so I doubt they were for real, but opened my eyes to the fact that if you're buying a pup you don't necessarily know what the 'papers' look like. Good point about photocopies though.
As for buying a crossbreed, yes I know what you mean, I tried to tell them but they'd already picked a cute fluffy pup, and there was no going back for them. She played with Milo when she was young and he brushed past her, not roughly at all, and dislocated her hip it did pop back in with gentle massage, but I wonder what problems the future will bring for them.
