I wondered, as a complete novice, if anyone could give me any advice as to the pros and cons of trimming tails (you know the fluffy long hairs on the end). I'm not sure if it's something that everyone does, whether it's frowned on, is the norm or not.
Do you? Advice please. TA.

we have always trimmed the very end of the tail the little bit that sticks out just to make it round (if that makes sense!!)

I tend to pinch the tail at the end, and the 'twizzle' that is at the other end of my pinched fingers is carefully snipped off in a rounded fashion to make a nice clean tail end. Not banged off horizontally but a nice rounded neat end.
There is no need to do it but it looks nicer than having a spikey thin twizzle

Ive been wanting to know about this too
I have Harvey entered in a open show in Sunday - first in ages!
Anyway he's suddenly looking a bit hairy lol There is hair down underneath his tail and down the back of his back thighs - if you see what I mean lol
Do you think I should leave well alone incase I make a mess Does it matter?
edited to say I meant does it matter if he has a bit too much hair lol Last edited by Fay on Wed Dec 13, 2006 2:22 pm; edited 1 time in total

Yes definately only do the twizzle... don't try and touch trousers or the hair under the tail.... or whiskers, or anything else you might 'do' on a horse. I know its tempting, but its not needed in our breed....
