Any wins won whilst you are still under 12 months old, so still in puppy don't qualify you out of maiden.

She has a graduate class win Di - which I am told stops her being eligible for Maiden Shocked

Hi

I would agree - best to stick to age specific classes for as long as you can!! Sometimes it can be difficult at general open shows (shows with lots of breeds) as the classes tend to have dogs and bitches in the same class or don't have a class specifically for the age of your dog. If there's a puppy class, then I would encourage you to do that class.

When we first started with Jenna, a few of the open shows we went to had very poor classifications for Labs - just 2 or 3 classes - which made it tough on a minor puppy (doing an Open class for example) up against much more mature animals. Still, it's all good practice and experience for both yourself and your dog, for breed open and championship shows, which are really important. The AV classes are good fun and it's quite nice pitting yourself up against different breeds. Good luck!

Sue, interesting, I've always worked under the system that any wins before 12 months are not counted. You may be right - I'll find out, I solidly believed that till 12 months wins didn't matter in counting for Maiden and novice...

the general breed classes, if you really wished to, you could enter every one with a 6 month old. It would be crazy but there are only UPPER limits not lower ones.Di

Do you mean that in UK Shows I could enter eg. Open class with a 6 months old puppy??

Yes. You wouldn't but you could.

By nature of the word 'Open' means the class is 'Open to all'. I would be most suprised if an Open Class in any country if you read the rules makes stipulations who can and can't enter it by nature, again of the word being 'Open'.

What is your schedule definition for Puppy, Junior and Open out of interest? How do they word who can and can't enter?

Suee,

Your friend was right. Rang the KC and yes indeed, a graduate win would put you out of Maiden at whatever age is was won. The actual definition being only Minor Puppy, special puppy and Puppy wins being discounted when thinking if you have a single win (maiden) or 3 wins (Novice).

So another reason really not to enter lots of classes with youngsters which are over their age group, but appreciate that its hard when you get small classifications, or impossible.

I could of just read the KC yearbook but needed to call them anyway for something.

Be careful when calculating wins for open show entries for maiden & novice.

In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including the seventh day before the date of closing of entries shall be counted when entering for any class. Wins in Variety Classes do not count for entry in Breed Classes, but when entering for Variety Classes, wins in both Breed and Variety Classes must be counted.

For example you may have not won your way out of Maiden & Novice for Lab Classes but if you add to your lab wins any variety class wins you may have won out of Maiden & Novice for Variety classes.

Just call me Mrs KC Wink
