Vicky I'm so sorry, everyone who has ever PM'd me knows I am rubbish at saving them and then I forget they are there once the alert goes off
I think you have it covered by everyone. Day 16 would be EXTREMELY early for her season to be at an end. It could be around day 7 when you say she stopped for 2 days) she was just excessively clean, or it was raining outside and the floor was dirty (I know mine was, thats no insult!) but day 7 whilst possible is VERY early to ovulate.
Day 16 is far more likely, and so the lack of discharge now would more to my mind be in line with the average labrador bitch. She is probably towards the end of ovulating (as Alison says you tend to have about a 5 day range to mate them successfully) but certainly for at least another week I would keep her in. I am a great one for believing in 28 days, not 21. NOT for the sake of thebitch, but because I think of others males out there.
Most dogs aren't used at stud, therefore they know nothing of ovulating and so on. They know only the bitch stirs their loins Now its only your bitch that will get upset, stressed and ravaged if she isn't finished, and I would hate that, especially a wee thing like her with some great lump of a golden retriever trying to mount her or something...
Chances are by day 21 she will not concieve if a dog happened to manage to mate her, but her lovely smell could still screw him up for a long time as regards bitches and certainly could get her a lot of unwanted attention.
BUT her swelling going too is telling. It might be as well you are nearly there after all to wait till about day 20/21 and then 'test her' with either a fairly dominant bitch or a castrated male. If they are really interested in her back end an entire male would go loopy still
Di

thanks Di - well no further discharge of any colour (hehe) and we are on day 20 today her bits are well and truly back to normal.
We are going training round my friends tonight with her castrated male so I guess by 6.05pm I will be either back in the car heading home or I will know.
If all is ok tonight I am planning to reintroduce lead walks for a further week and then back to normal on day 28.
Phew thank goodness this is only once - what a worry hehehe
I was also just thinking all the worrying I did about when to spay was all for nothing as Ruby will be 18 months by the time we have waited 3 months after her first season so there is an advantage to her being late with her first season.
