Me again need some advice please.

Ruby is on day 16 of her season and seems to be very very nearly finished all swelling gone down hardly any blood at all and she isnt cleaning all the time anymore. It has changed colour and got darker too is that ok (pyo stress panic Shocked )

She did the stopping bleeding on day 7 for 2 days then started again so I assume that was the ovulation.

Appetite all back to normal not whiny clingy or wanting to go clubbing for boyfriend.

Soooooooo should I still assume she is in season for the whole 28 days?

Whadda ya all think? Confused

Hmmm - Di can answer this I am sure. The reason I waited two weeks was because Millie was swollen all the way though and was still being a tart til the end. I just didn't want to risk it. Guess it was easier for me too as Doobs told me that she was still ravenous throughout the four weeks!!!!

I`d err on the side of caution Vicky and assume Ruby is still in full season, she`ll still have that "Come and get me big boy" scent on her thats for sure!! Laughing

Hi Vicky.

What colour is it? The worrying colour is a distinctly dirty brown colour rather than the bloody red colour.

What is she like drinking? This often increases when in season and also tends to increase with Pyometra so is not easy to tell what's "Normal" and what's worrying.

I take it there is no sickness?

How does she appear in herself? A dog with Pyo normally rather subdued, but again, unfortunately this could also be said about many bitches in season.

Usually what happens is that an infection manages to get inside when the vulva is open, during a season, but does not really get a hold until after the season is over. So this would be rather early, but not impossible.

Sorry Vicky, it's all a little inconclusive, but I think in this case I would air on the side of caution. I know it will almost certainly be a wasted expense but I'm a little concerned about the discharge starting again. The first thing a vet would do is take her temprature. Normaly high with Pyometra. This would give him a pretty sure fire answer straight off.

Regards, John

She isnt drinking more than usal the last few days she has been climbing the walls wanting to go out so not subdued at all.

I thought the break in bleeding was normal and indicated ovulation Confused

Bitches in season dont normally stop bleedy during their season - what normally happens at the point they are ready to be mated is that the liquid becomes clear or watery so its not as easy to spot.

I tell you what is an exeptional bible is a book called
Book of the Bitch by J M Evans & Kay White it is a complete guide to understanding and caring for bitches.

It covers everything and is excellent reference for all of those little queries.

I dont take any of my bitches our until they have passed 21 days - some bitches can still be mated this late so be careful.

............... ooohh Ihave that book why didnt I think of that eh eh I have read it from cover to cover too.

TBH I am not sure she did stop completely she has been so clean and light that unless I had put a white sheet over her bed I would have never even known she was in season.
