Had a look at the picture of Toby the lovely black lab and it got me thinking....I see that they are asking for a lifelong foster home for him. What exactly does that entail? I have rescued Labs, but never fostered and was just hoping someone could fill me in on what it would all mean. How is lifelong fostering any different from rescuing? So many questions........... I am looking into lifetime fostering too and with Lab Welfare you take the dog on (subject to homecheck) they pay the vet bills, but you have to pay for flea, wormer and boosters also food.

But in return you get usually a golden oldie who will live out there days with you, who will receive all the cuddles and warmth they need for their twilight years. Very Happy

Certainly in breed rescue it would basically mean that the dog had varying problems, probably medical but possibly behavioural too that would require a fair amount of money thrown at them regularly. Therefore to adopt him would place that expense on the owner, and they would never find a home, however with a lifelong foster, the rescue still has the responsibility to fund the dogs medical treatment or behavioural visits or suchlike.

Does that make sense?

couldn't of said it better myself Carroll Wink
Its a wonderfull thing for someone to do Very Happy
many rescues look for forever fosterers because the dog maybe too old to find a home or to be pushed from pillar to post trying to find it a home, they may also have problems so can't be easily homed.
best of luck, let us know how you get on Very Happy

Carroll has explained it to perfection, you would need to find out what problems poor Toby has and if you think you can cope then go for it, its sooooooo rewarding.

Good luck on what you decide and let us know.

ps where did you see Toby i would to have a peep.

Thanks for all your replies, you have all given me food for thought, will have to discuss it with OH. If I had my way I'd have a house full of lovely labbies, but obviously have to look at the practical side of things as I have too already, who both require different levels of exercise.

Denise - I saw Toby's little face in the pictures on the top left corner, which change all the time. I can't resist having a look and he looked so sweet, just like my old girl Tara Very Happy .
