I've got an even better idea Very Happy Very Happy Embarassed I'll go to Oz for you, and you can stay and look after the pup Rolling Eyes Embarassed Laughing Laughing

On a serious note, think everything has been covered - while we left Hally for a week in kennels when she was quite young - and it has worked really well for future visits - a month is a long time Shocked

While it would be a nice idea to leave the dogs in their own environment, not convinced I would want someone living in my home for a month Shocked

Hope you manage to sort things out - and enjoy your trip Wink have you been before ? I was out there on business last year, and would love to go back one day (for a holiday) Shocked Confused

The breeder would be my first port of call...I know mine would have had my labs if asked. Failing that it would be option 1 seeing its going to be a month. On the kennels front tho when Cadbury went in (only for 1 week)we didn't have Rolo then it was £8.00 a night.

Or as suggested anyone of us would take your place and then you can look after him yourself Laughing Laughing

Hi

We went away a few months ago and left Abbey with a pet sitter for 16 days.
Abbey went and lived in this ladies house as part of their family,
(she has 3 dogs of her own, plus cats, rabbits, hamsters and parrots .)
Abbey had a fantastic time and i was really pleased with the pet sitter. It cost us £15 a day but worth every penny to know Abbey was being extremely well looked after and very happy.

I agree that the breeder should be choice number 1 but Your lady Lorri-ann sounds a very close 2nd. Was she a friend/relative or does she do this on a regular basis. I'm sure if Scubabe is going away for a month a couple of days transporting Ozzie to and from Wigan would be worth it. But would this lady take such a young pup?
It's just an idea if there was no such kind lady in or around Wigan. If I didn't work I'd have him for a month myself Very Happy

Thanks for all your responses, much appreciated.

We're gonna try and get Jen to come to the house and live in for the month, she's happy to do that and I think she'd be fine with Ozzie. Inexperienced, but that's not such a bad thing - it's been 10 years since I last had a puppy so I'd call myself kinda inexperienced as well!

The holiday was booked long ago and cannot be moved - it's my mum's 50th and my sisters 21st and my nephews 3rd and DH and I are also having a vow renewal (as none of my friends & family in Oz have ever met him) so there is absolutely no way we can put it off. I never thought to mention it to the breeder and they never asked, so it didn't come up.

If Jen can't come then we're going to look into having Ozzie cared in someone else's home, those pet sitters who take your pet into their house. DH thinks this will offend his parents but right now I don't care, there's no way I want Ozzie there for a month.

Thanks for all your opinions, they are always welcome.

Oh, and Sue, yep I've been before, I'm an Aussie... that's how we got Ozzie's name Smile I've only lived in the UK 3 years and haven't seen my family since I left Australia to go travelling a loooooong time ago. This will be my first ever trip home and I'm really looking forward to it... but I'm going to miss Ozzie like mad!!!

I wonder what's wrong with Oz that all the Ozzies want to come to live here? I can say that cos MOH has Oz family and my BiL is Oz (though a more obnoxious person you could not wish to meet - the rest of my BiL's family and MOH family are lovely though!!)

It sounds like it's going to be one massive celebration - wonderful!

hahaha I don't there's anything wrong with Oz, but isn't it fabulous to experience life in another country? (I know you know what I mean as you're in France)

The thing I love the most about living in the UK is the seasons - I'd never experienced autumn, winter or spring until I lived here. My first snowfall happened in the woods in Nottingham and it totally blew me away, one of my most favourite days of my life. The seasons are just brilliant. And the history! Australia is such a young country (architecturally/culturally speaking).

I honestly can't wait to see everyone again on our holiday next year. I have nieces and nephews I have never met! And of course getting married again will be SO MUCH fun! Nowhere near as stressful third time around (we eloped to Vegas then had a celebration here in UK, so the Oz one will be our third go!) Smile

Touche! Laughing Laughing LOL!

Personally I'd rather be in the UK anyday but MOH's job (and soon to be my job) is here.

And if you want seasons you'd better get on a plane and come down to SW France - we do still have actually have them here, every year!!

Di, when I enquired about a (daytime) pet sitter for Jess, the lady informed me that she came to my house in the morning, stayed all day in the house, taking the dog for a walk once or twice a day. She charged £12.50 a day but she brought her own food!! She left about 5.00pm or when I got home from work.
